Yeah, I went to see it. The first time I've gone to see a Hollywood movie in theaters since Avengers: Endgame. I had basically sworn that off, though a time to see the first three on a free streaming service did provide me with good entertainment, so I knew what to expect, and I was not disappointed at all. Over the top violent fun, "toxic masculinity" abound, and a couple of plot points that just don't make any goddamn sense.
I wanted to like "Nobody," but I don't think there was enough explanation behind him to make his actions make sense. At the very least, his action scenes with his dog were much better than the Halle Berry rinse & repeat from 3. I always liked the "old badass" look Hiroyuki Sanada has going for him ever since The Last Samurai. There is a "strong female character," but she's not a "girl boss that only excels so that male characters are brought down;" she has to play to her own strengths to get the upper hand as she does, and has to struggle to do so. Actually, one of the most impressive things I saw in this movie was a strange turnabout as John is chasing down a fat bastard mafioso, when suddenly, the fat bastard actually fights back EXTREMELY WELL.
No cliffhanger on this one. The story is wrapped up unless they pull some really screwy shit. But hey, it's John Wick, it wouldn't be the first time.
Oh, forgot to mention, the "bulletproof suits" get fucking ridiculous. Like everyone is wearing a formal business suit lined with tempered steel plates. Don't even bother dodging or taking cover anymore, just cover your face with your arm or raise the jacket slightly.
Also- the ugly as fuck Adjudicator does not appear in the movie. I consider that a plus, though it did mean I didn't get to see anyone kill her.
They are made of Vibranium, that is why there is zero kinetic impact from bullets or falling from great heights.
The level 5 flexible armor that everyone makes their suits out of doesn't bother me as much as the multi-story falls or pedestrian collisions with vehicles causing no signs of injury, but none of these are particularly realistic
And I'm still pissed that the Adjudicator wasn't played by Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity from The Matrix.) And yeah, a scene where she takes a bullet (probably at the hands of the Marquis) would have been nice.
Thank fucking god. That cunt is the reason I stopped watching Billions. They made her a super genius financial guru whose first lines in the show are "my pronouns are cunt/bitch/whore", yadda yadda yadda, typical mary sue shit. I'm pretty sure her shaved head is included in every contract she has, and its fucking ugly, not that her face is any better.
I could almost forgive it if she were a good actress, but she isn't.
It was a very well paced 2hr40min action movie.
Holy shit, you aren't making that run time up. That's almost enough to keep me from watching it right there.
Supposedly they were shooting 4 and a hypothetical 5, but eventually decided it best to just keep it as one movie.
Felt the same way, but it does not feel that long at all. If this is the only thing keeping you from watching it, go and watch it.
At that runtime, it will be the patron saint of in-flight-movies on airlines everywhere.

The first one was good, but that was enough for me. Maybe if I'm ever bored someday I'll watch the second one.
I think the sequels shouldn't have been made. The first one was amazing and I feel like trying to build up the world it took place in and explain how it works only detracts from it. I liked it better when it was a mystery.
Also I hate how they basically abandoned some of the elements that made the first movie unique - like the way they played with lighting in the nightclub fight scene, where the color of the light changes based on what's going on. It was incredibly cool, and then they said fuck it and just turned 2 and 3 into cookie cutter action flicks. Bleh.
The first one works extremely well as its own thing. The second movie sets up a bunch of stuff that doesn't get resolved until the fourth film. The tone also changes quite a bit from what I'd call a grounded action film to be quite a bit more over-the-top, which is a bit jarring at times.
I like all four movies, and can't find much to complain about outside the middle of the second and third (barring the aforementioned shift in tone.) If you like over-the-top action and violence, I'd highly recommend the rest of the series. If that's not your style, I'd suggest sticking with the first.

I had strong reservations after watching 3, because the adjudicator was insufferable, but any doubts I had were mercilessly gunned down, blown up, and hit with a couple dozens cars. John Wick 4 was such a good movie. I have to commend them on nearly perfecting the pacing on a movie with a runtime of nearly three hours.
Much of John Wick (particularly in the third and fourth films) is tributes to older films/genres. Nobody, in particular, seems to be referencing Westerns (see his use of a lever action) and the "Mysterious Stranger" archetype there. In fact, his name is an apparent reference to a particular film, My Name is Nobody.

The only thing that was unresolved is a conflict between two characters that could very well be a spinoff. Strong girl was gone for the rest of the movie after her scenario, which was EARLY in this really goddamn long movie.
Except both dudes she could have a conflict with end up dead by the end. .

Donnie Yen was redeemed at the end. Unless they make her a bad guy they're not gonna have her kill him. That would be a shitty twist.
If Winston, Cain, and John's other friends wanted to help him get out of the life, for sure, it would make sense that they'd fake his death and give him a mock funeral. However, from what Keanu and the producers have said, they're not sure if they'll make a 5th John Wick, yet. They said it depends on the audience reaction. It's weird, though. I kept hearing news that they were filming John Wick 4 and 5 at the same time. They're also planning on making 1 or 2 spinoff movies.
I hope they make John Wick 5. I didn't like him dying the second he got his freedom. With the way Winston and The Bowery King were acting at his gravestone makes me thing they faked his death so he could live in peace. With the way chapter 3 ended I always thought they were going to end everything with John going after the high table.

But the only way to make JW5 is to drag him back in again. If you want the satisfaction of knowing John gets to live some kind of peaceful life afterwards, the only way to do that is a post-credits scene like TDKR (or the end of the first Bourne film, I suppose), and end the series there.
The movie feels like two movies in my view, so I think they combined what they wanted to do while allowing themselves an opening if they wanted it.
They keep saying they'll wait to see audience reaction to decide on a fifth, but I think that's rooted in the third not doing as well originally. But the reaction is pretty good so far.
Is it that time already? This is one of the few modern movies I've been looking forward to just because it isn't tainted with virtue signalling everything else is. Yes the plot is retarded and so are the plotholes and the action sequences but that's what people are forgetting about good action movies, it's supposed to be retarded and brainless, it's all about silly over the top action and nothing else.
The rest of Hollywood has forgotten how to do this because they're too busy money laundering for democrats, even Michael Bay to a certain degree and that guy is pretty much famous for making retarded movies with lots of explosions in them and little to no plot. It's thanks to the level of virtue signalling going on in Hollywood now I actually miss straight forward action movies nowadays.
Huh, haven't been to a theater in years, but maybe I'll go myself. I've enjoyed the series so far, and it's probably kickass in theater.
