On the one hand, link is best as a voiceless protagonist. On the other hand, this would potentially mean that Morshu could be in it, and the addition of more lamp oil, ropes, and bombs to the world would be an excellent thing.

While the Zelda games are generally always about Link going around getting 3 orbs/things representing the 3 powers of the Tri-Force, then the Master Sword, then 7 crystals in some dark/shadow world the title is "Legend of Zelda" so almost too low a hanging fruit for some Woke Left subversive would take as an invitation to make it all about Zelda while Link will be some goofy hwuite male who gets all the credit despite lucking into winning against whatever Big Bad is used, be that GanonChad or some nebulous concept like 'The Patriarchy'.
And shills will repeat the line of "It's the 'Legend of Zelda' not Link, bigot!".
Modern adaptations are trash and the ones making them continually fall upwards to ruin more and more franchises.

While dated OoT info there's also Zelda obviously, her bodyguard, the fish princess, Link's bff Saria, the 3 Fairies, and Malon the pony girl.

Yes, they are. Which are very good (if very basic) kids movies, with no really unreasonable messages. There is a reason the newest Minions movie was one of the only movies to make more money than Top Gun in 2022.
So if Illumination is indeed working on an animated Legend of Zelda, I am...cautiously optimistic.
Since they aren't overly virtue signalling in their films, there might be the chance they are doing Zelda to show they can do more adultish animated films or just have kid friendly Zelda film so win either way.
