The showrunner for Last of Us is an idiot

It's like how every female/black/gay superhero is the first one to ever exist.
So now it's enemies jump on you, you die, and you have to buy another DLC. Wow, what a change.
Yeah, the mushrooms jump on you in Last of Us
There was a time where a director who adapts a video game and refuses to research the game or gamers would surprise me. Now I expect it. Look at Wheel of Time or a lot of modern shows for crappy showrunners
Makes you yearn for the old days when someone like Nicholas Meyer would sit down and watch every episode of Star Trek before he directed Wrath of Khan.
Exactly! Seems like common sense. If I wasn’t familiar with Babylon 5 and got a job working on a sequel I would take some time and just binge everything I could related to it
Oh god, don't even go there. "The Narn were ENSLAVED by the Centauri? We need to get all black actors (inexplicably, mostly British) to play them!" "These shadows represent chaos? So they're the good ones, right? ANARCHY RULES! Especially if it's socialist." "Yes, I get that they're fighting for the survival of their species ... but what about the LGBT people?"
There’s no way that an ethnic Russian character would exist as a good
guywoman in 2023.Ha!!! I know they would ruin it. And if you point out the show did have black characters that wouldn’t be enough. But I’m so tired of this cycle where corporations show zero respect for what they are adapting and then attack fans when it is unpopular
Babylon 5 already did have some of the B in LGBT with Ivanova's crush on Talia.
It seems to weird to hire people for the task of adapting something who have such disdain for the material. Yet it keeps happening.
I know. I used to be surprised til I realized for whatever reason it was on purpose
Because it's not adaptation, it's subversion using the brand as a cloak.
I barely played the first game and I remember the huge hype it got for the trailer of the second game. But honestly at this point when I see race swapping it tells me all I need to know and it’s clear that their goal isn’t storytelling
I saw the opening and some change for the second game and had no desire to play it. It’s basically strong independent woman beating a man to death and then there’s trans people. The entire point of the game was the narrative, and I saw that they ruined it within the first hour just with the beating to death thing.
And I remember the endless praise over her being gay
It gets pretty creepy when there’s a tendency to kill off and vilify white people in heroic roles and replace them with alphabet folks. The trans kid thing’s also not particularly realistic during a zombie apocalypse because nobody’d have time for that shit given the circumstances.
Also the focus would be on repopulation so two healthy women not being with men probably would be shunned.
Really looking forward to not watching this atrocity too.
Mario bros was 82 in Japan wasn't it? 85 for North America.
They mean Pong. It threw me a little too.
And I didn't get one until 1990 because I was 5
Not just "people". The person who made the original post went on to admit it was a troll post..
I'm gonna need a source on this. Doing a search on it just leads back to a random Twitter post which also doesn't provide a source.
With some digging, I think its people complaining about some stuff that Druckmann and Mazin said in this interview with the New Yorker, but while there is some dumb comments in there, there's still not the above quote (or even anything kind of like the dumb quote).
So, actual source of the quote please. There's no need for us to post screenshots of random made-up quotes from people like the media does.
The source is a post on Twitter made by someone with no connection to the show. There was even a follow-up post clarifying it was a joke.
I got it from the Twitter post, so that's as far as I went.
A twitter post made by someone with zero involvement in the show, and who clarified it was a joke less than two hours after the original post.
Your laptop will now bill you $0.25 each time you die...
in other news, water is wet
With that understanding of the actual concept they are adapting, I have moved this show from a She-hulk class of disappointment to a possible Rings of Power catastrophe
You fell for a joke, then proceeded here to share misinformation to get everyone riled up over it. Here is the original source of the comment. Here is the follow-up stating it was a joke, which came an hour and a half later. Both of these were posted seven days ago. Do better.
I've heard that Last of Us is a good game. I believe that is probably true. However, I - to this day - do not know what style of game it is. Turn-based RPG? ARPG? Action? Adventure? Puzzle? Platformer? Rogue-like? Strategy/tactics? Survival/resource management? Like, I know there's zombies or some shit, and I know there's a compelling story. But I have no idea why I'm supposed to like playing it. So I've never bothered.
Its violence porn. An interactive movie, move cutscene than game.
It’s the “watch a movie and occasionally press x” genre
And not a good movie-that's-a-game like Metal Gear.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is one of my favorite movies.
3rd-person shooter with very heavy stealth elements that likes melee quiet takedowns, but that as an option every so often you can go full rambo, but it is discouraged. That loves long cinematics that don't go anywhere. So very much like Metal Gear Solid, just with a setting that's post-apoc zombies instead of semi-cyberpunk-modern.
Has a bare-bones crafting system and exploration system, but it is very bare-bones, likely an afterthought by one of the devs.
Decent enough game (the first one), but it is so pretentious at times that it is best played with a friend and riffed on while playing.
third person action
I'm exactly the same with Mass Effect.
When it first came out, the only thing people talked about was the romance options.
I don't give a shit about "romance options" in a game, so I never looked into it any further.
Isn't the game based off of a probable daughter molester trying to groom a new kid to be his next victim, under the guise that "the true enemies aren't the deadly mushroom zombies"? That's the vibe I got off if it, even if the multiplayer was the greatest thing in the mid-2010s.
That is certainly the wildest, and most intentionally obtuse, take on the first game that I have seen since its release. I don't want to have to defend the team involved in making The Last of Us, but you should reevaluate how you're getting your information.
I'm getting that impression. I don't like how things turned out for that IP, but I never once got the impression he was a sexual predator. He was a man who loved his daughter, and Ellie was a shot at redemption.
I mean I got my information by playing it. The guy, I think his name is joel, comes off as such a predatory creeper that I'm amazed the game wasn't flagged a la cuties.
Hi Neil Druckmann.
