everyone with a modicum of taste hates rian johnson and thinks he's a hack. of course he's going to gloat about raping star wars.

Yep. Ruining the things you like is the point. It's their goal from the outset. However much Lucas might have been a Ritalin addicted, nonsensical junkie who couldn't write or direct good dialogue if you put a gun to his head, he actually cared about his universe and wanted to make something good.

These skinsuit freaks want nothing of the sort.

I struggle to think of any name in Hollywood that this doesn't apply to. They're pretty much all hacks at this stage (yes, even the ones that were once decent have lost their talent as time has gone on), and they pretty much all gloat about how much they hate the public. Hollywood has always been a gathering point for commies, and now is no different.

I'd still say Tarantino is over-rated, and potentially heading into hack status. It's not a matter of relativity. Tarantino is probably better than most other film makers, but that doesn't necessarily make him good, it just means he clears the bar that everyone else sets. The Rise of Skywalker was a better film than The Last Jedi, but that doesn't mean that TRoS was a good movie.

I liked Knives Out and Looper. I think he's probably a fine director, just not the right person for Star Wars.

You can have talent in a particular area but not be the right person for the job. I wouldn't ask James Cameron to direct Star Trek or Tarantino to direct Downton Abbey because you know they would put their own twist on it that isn't necessarily faithful to the source material. It's important to pick the director whose style and vision matches the project.

I lay the blame for The Last Jedi entirely on Kathleen Kennedy.

I have to agree. He also did an episode of Breaking Bad. I said the same thing. I don’t understand why you want someone with his philosophy directing a massive blockbuster

"Look at how they massacred my boy" is how I feel about Star Wars now.

I don't even want to hear about it anymore because of what they did to it.

Same. Well I still enjoy reading the old expanded universe (rereading Heir to the Empire currently). I never thought I wouldn’t care about new Star Wars

I follow some of the shenanigans of Disney Star Wars, via the Critical Drinker, Mauler, and Disparu, out of perverted curiosity. But I consider the whole of Disney Star Wars, with few exceptions, to be poorly written fanfiction with no bearing on canon.

It's the same for Star Trek. As far as I'm concerned, canon ended with Enterprise. The Kelvinverse films are a guilty pleasure, but I don't consider them canon.

How's that new trilogy that you were given Rian?

You know, the one that you got because Kathleen Kennedy was so impressed with TLJ.

We're waiting...

Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi won't kill Darth Vader despite the evil he's done because he can sense the good in him. Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi is seconds away from killing someone who's done nothing wrong because of the potential evil he could do if he turned to the dark side.

Leia never should have been Luke’s sister. That “twist” was nonsensical.

This is just a 5 year-old setting an ant hill on fire so he can rile up a swarm to sell his shitty "Clue" ripoff sequel.

Imagine being proud of making a star wars movie so bad that it kills off the merchandising and interest in what was once the biggest franchise in the world. Not even Phantom Menace could do that.

In universe, yes, the events of the ending would contribute to his legend. The problem is that we, the audience, aren't in universe. We can see it through the lens of viewers and it doesn't work the same way for us.

Why nobody at Disney said “don’t you think having a more adventurous or mentor Luke would be better”. Also why those idiots had him at the very end of TFA is dumb. I know Lucas’s plan was to have him meditate before getting back into action

Because as always, destroying him was the point. People think corporations are about acquiring money, but they don't realize what money is a proxy for... power. If they are willing to "go broke" it must be in exchange for something more powerful, whether real or just perceived.
