Dead Internet Theory vindicated

I reactivated my Twitter after the Elon announcement. I have a weirdly wide reach for someone that hasn't tweeted in 5 years and only has 40 followers through hashtagging alone. This is very much a sign of dead Internet theory.

Basically every major social media site uses bots. Reddit was infamous for using bots to first get the site some popularity and attention. We all know how much Youtube likes to mess around with numbers. On Twitch they don't ban accounts that have had bots because they can't verify who is doing it.

It's very easy to tell when something on the internet is organic or not and since 2014 onward it's been getting more and more fake by the day, unless you go to less popular places.

NPCs can't even identify a bot because they're both working from a fixed script.

The actual bot probably has better spelling.

I'm thinking it was hiding follower accounts or at least juggling the numbers. Like a rolling shadow ban means you don't show up in counts as well as timelines and the same for your followers. They tried to limit how many can interact at one time, so that's my thinking.

I can't listen to the guy, I am surprised that he is not using bots.

He either talks for 20 mins about an article I can read in 2 mins or he has a podcast where he cares more about hearing himself speak then listen to the guests.

By the time he does the "head over to timcast.com" I've either skipped to where's covering the article in the thumbnail to find out what was interesting or I got the gist of it and have turned it off.

Even scarier is that normies thought it was all legit and based their worldview on it.

OMG, all the best horror writers in the nation couldn't come up with a better Black Mirror episode than this.

Alternatively this could be a good thing. If we can figure out how to trap these weirdo influencers in a social media prison - and make sure nothing they say ever gets out into the real world - half of modern society's problems will be solved.

It brings to mind a conspiracy meme that on any given forum, it's just you and either a bunch of bots, or accounts run by one person.
With the apparent ease of programming bots now, numbers or statistics that relate exclusively to online activity may not mean anything anymore.

Weird. I have an OG twatter account with a password generator random nick that I use to follow keywords with tweetdeck. Never tweeted. > 4000 "followers".

Holding steady even after the bot purge. I should start a cult.
