It's a fat woman who uses they/them pronouns, because she calls herself non-binary. Should have kept her locked in the loony bin.

The loony bin was run by Reddit admins, so when she said that she was 'transgender', she was deemed miraculously cured of... being delusional and her myriad of other ailments.

Our menu was bland — mac and cheese, basic salads, soup and crackers, chicken burgers, tasteless fries — and served at the same times every day.

OH MY GOD, that's torture. I will cry for her being made to eat chicken burgers prepared for by someone else. I spend my actual free time making that for myself.

and served at the same times every day.

This is the bit that really gets me.

What the fuck do they expect? The kitchen staff on call all day? It's a fucking hospital, not a 4 star hotel!

Breakfast at 8, Lunch at 12, Dinner at 6! The horror!

Besides... that's usually what a normal human does, no? Sure, depending on how busy you are, things change, but normally you eat at roughly the same time. At least I get hungry at around the same time.

That's pretty much what I do for my own children. They prefer the predictable routine.

Not fatties they eat all day.

I'm fat. I can eat whenever. Sometimes once a day, sometimes 4 times a day. There's some deeper impulse control issue than just "fat" here. It's the brain fat, not the body fat, that's the issue.

Institutional cooking HAS to be bland, because not everyone likes the same things, and allergies. But the kitchens themselves are usually pretty well stocked, and you should be able to ask the workers for the seasoning/spice of your choice (although if the place is deemed "dry", don't expect cooking sherry or crap like that.)

And there was probably actually more variety than she's letting on, but hey, drama queens and kings gotta drama.

... and yeah, no one likes to admit that paediatric abnormal psychology is a thing. There's some really dangerous kids locked up in some of those places.

To me the food she listed doesn't even sound that bad in general. Like I have seen hospital food here, it's baaad. But this sounds okay.

no one likes to admit that paediatric abnormal psychology is a thing.

Reading up on child sociopathy/psychopathy is sobering. They start exhibiting problems almost as soon as they're able to interact with other children. By the time they're 6 they're torturing animals/insects. By age 10 they've attacked or threatened a child or adult with a knife. By 13 they're in a detention facility of some kind. There's virtually no hope for them other than a lifetime of imprisonment.

And they can come from perfectly normal families, with perfectly normal siblings.

I agree that her complaints re: hospital food are pretty unsympathetic.

However, suggesting that an institutionalized teen in a mental ward had the ability to stroll down to Food Services to negotiate the garnishing of her meals is also pretty unrealistic.

Similarly, the psychiatrists in charge don't give a fuck. I spent lots of time on psych wards during training. Most psychiatrists were only ever physically present on the wards for 30 mins or less in the morning for rounding on patients and did little other than tinker with meds and arrange discharges, let alone cater to the inmates comfort whims.

Definitely. Need to better segregate the dangerous ones from the ones that have "lesser" issues, otherwise you end up with some severely traumatized kids, or worse. Same goes with adult facilities. Also the reverse, mentally ill in prisons. Bring back psychiatric institutions.

This has to be parody.
