Temple OS legit would be perfect for something like a Raspberry Pi, and I think that's the kind of thing he was designing it for.

The only difference between iOS and Android is that you're not married to Google devices at this point

I have no idea what's going on in this video, but what happened to Windows abandoning the version numbers with 10? I thought it was just supposed to be "Windows" from now on, for all future versions.

They can't do that until they go with a subscription model for WIndows like they've done with for Office. If you're just buying one copy and getting updates forever they're only getting your money once. That's unacceptable to the MBAs.

I think I'm so fucking glad I switched to *nix operating systems years ago and my life is no longer negatively impacted every time spywareOS receives a substantial update.

The biggest flaw of ME, being based on the old Win '98/'95 core, was that the OS itself had no mechanism for protecting itself or its drivers from user-mode code. If any application failed or went rogue, it could inadvertently (or intentionally) take down the entire OS, read or corrupt other applications, or any other number of things.

The NT kernel has protected system processes and memory that at least attempt to prevent that kind of stuff from happening.

That I'm the same old fart that I used to laugh at and who's ideal Windows feature set came with something like Windows 2000 and I'll never want much more than that.

They’re trying to push mandatory sign-in to a Microsoft account at least in the Home version. They’ve been making it harder and harder to just use a local account in Windows 10.

They might not be slimy fucks to the same extent as the likes of Google but that’s not saying much.

The worst part is that your file paths may contain dox as it names itself after your account.

I never stick anything in windows under \users\when_we_win_remember. Hell that's the stuff that I want trashed when I reinstall :)

Oh f*** no. I can't see one thing in that video that's a positive. If I wanted the quick launch buttons in the middle of the screen, I'd get a mac. The only time on Win10 that I interact with the personalized feeds/live tiles/whatever they're called now are to get the registry hacks to turn them off implemented, I certainly don't want more. Tiling several windows on a single screen can already be done (at least, for 2 windows), but doing that without multiple monitors is asking for trouble due to screen size issues. Oh, and alt-tabbing has been a thing for years (decades?) too. I don't want you automatically connecting to things for me unless I give you explicit permission, because I don't like spyware. Never used, and never will use, the Microsoft Store until you let me do it without connecting the whole OS to your services, and if I want Android software (not sure why I would) I'll just run Bluestacks. And how is "new themes!" a selling point for your OS, when people can just make their own themes?

Oh, and let me guess, is this going to come with a (functionally) forced update too, like Win10 did, thereby breaking tons of existing software installs?

For someone who's tec ability doesn't go much past searching for error codes and following guides, is non Windows OS's viable?

Desktop Linux distros have come a pretty long way in the last decade or so; you can even play some Windows games on the modern ones. Steam has a built-in compatibility tool (Proton) that will allow you to at least try and run Windows game, for standalone games there's Lutris, and you can check compatibility at https://www.protondb.com/.

Still, once in a while you might run into some weird issue that'll be difficult to fix. If you're considering making a switch, I'd definitely recommend a popular distro like Ubuntu, Mint, or Fedora, because it'll have way more tutorials and documentation available than others. Arch has a ton of excellent docs too, but avoid that unless you're a masochist.

It's a good idea to start by dualbooting at first. Keep Windows and try your hand at Linux to see if it does what you need.

maybe it'll be a phone OS soon.

Depending on your definition of 'soon'. They're clearly moving toward more arm support.

Same as all windows. It will never achieve the look and feel of the Mac OS, and using it supports a genocidal maniac billionaire.

At this point, it's run *nix or pick your favorite genocidal maniac billionaire.
