The First American City To Authorize "Reparations" Is Already Regretting It | ZeroHedge (www.zerohedge.com)

Reparations have been a disaster where they've been tried. I always like to point out the Obama Administration's settlement with a series of Indian Tribes which resulted in a $1.1 Billion settlement.

These were effectively checks directly written to tribes that were relatively poor and did have legitimate grievances. The tribes themselves had specific members who could be legally identified and then compensated by their own tribal governments.

It was a disaster that the activists themselves called a genocide.

It was hyperbolic, but you get the severity of the complaint.

Upon receipt of these government checks, the tribal governments basically went to war with their own people. "Tribal Disenrollment" became a thing as different political factions in the tribes set up their own racial laws to make sure individuals could prove their status as members of the tribe. The racial laws were designed to target political opponents from getting funded as everyone squabbled over the checks. The tribal governments would then keep payments for themselves rather than re-distributing them, or would remove people from the membership roles to keep the size of they paychecks high.

The political infighting dragged on for a decade until the payments finally stopped, no real improvements in any of the tribal lands or reservations took place, due to political infighting the tribal membership rolls had been slashed (sometimes over 50%) which further weakened their political power, and everyone was now generally worse off and hoping for another round of checks.

That is what reparations looks like under the best case scenario.

...and hoping for another round of checks.

That's funny to me considering what the first round checks did to them.

That's the point of creating a dependency system.

You haven't seen true nepotism at work until you've personally experienced tribal politics.

Voting blocs run almost exclusively along family lines.

Few prior threads I've made on this subject matter:

  • Senior Biden Adviser Says White House Will Start Acting on Reparations Without Congress
  • Chicago Suburb To Pay Black Residents Reparations Due To 'Wealth And Opportunity Gaps'

They're worth skimming to see attitudes and points brought up them for comparison.

This article was very interesting as they're being fairly explicit about their agenda on financial 'equity':

Then there’s the $10 million. It had seemed a smart idea to use the marijuana sales tax to pay for reparations. It’s such a convenient, tidy model that other communities might copy it. That’s the problem, Brown says. “I kind of call it reparations on the cheap. There’s no pain involved. I think it would be a different dynamic if reparations became an element of the city budget—of the core city budget—and the city government was saying, ‘We’re going to allocate a hundred million dollars over this period of time to fund the reparations budget.’” The city’s annual budget, for reference, is about $300 million. “This is just not costing anyone anything. So they’re OK.”

Rest of it doubles down on reparee attitudes. Never enough!

It's a government slush fund swindle. We are talking about Chicago black democrats here right?

Aaand it's gone-

The Asian cultural characteristics that you mention are also present in Asia. I am pretty sure the black ones are not. The reason why blacks everywhere do engage in this sort of behavior is because that is the sort of thing that is rewarded.

If whining about 'racism' got white people $$$, preferential treatment and an ability to do whatever the hell they wanted, you would see that behavior more among whites.

Note that this behavior is much less common in Europe, where the second most sacred class is Muslim rather than black. In fact, a black family attempted to pull the Starbucks stunt in a KFC (because of course) in Germany, and things did not exactly go well for them. This happened in Berlin, the San Fransicko of Europe.

The low - or rather, zero - expectations put on blacks, the denial of agency, the learned helplessness taught them is doing a number on them.

Is this true though? Black Africans who come to the US are completely different than blacks born here, and they both hate each other. For example aren’t a lot of the Nigerians that come here more hard working and not how you described?

There’s no pain involved.

Let's not overlook this. It's not enough to compensate, they want to watch you suffer. You need to be humiliated.

"Racial Justice" requires violent retribution and endorses genocide. This is why The Holocaust was the most successful Racial Justice program in history.

Hey Giz, I wondered if you'd pick up on that.

Seems like retribution is a core part of reparations, at least as far as vocal elements of that community are involved.

That's an important lesson. You can't pay them enough to make them stop wanting to hurt you. They'll take the money, sure. And then they'll hurt you.

Of course I'd pick up on the face of evil.

The kind of resentment-monger that enjoys this stuff will rationalize all of the violence and chaos they create. It's that whole wolves v. sheepdogs mentality. Know the face and movement of the wolf. Then destroy it.

The problem is that these people are hard to take seriously with how deluded they sound, but once in power they fight like the devil to stay in and cause as much damage as humanly possible. It's like putting a school shooter as the mayor.

The nature of catastrophe is that people normally fail to realize just how quickly things can go badly wrong with everyone left worse off. That's the normalcy bias: people think things don't go as badly as quickly as they can because they normally don't. It's why people stand around confused when they start hearing gunshots going off.

lol. As if Reparations were ever NOT going to be impossible to reach a satisfying conclusion. Even if both victim and offender were alive, it's not necessarily a legally sound idea to enforce on people who weren't doing anything illegal at the time, but now? Implementing Reparations is a joke:

-Taxes are taken from everyone, so any reparations from the government would be paid by both people who didn't contribute to slavery and even the beneficiaries/victims themselves

-Some black people may be the direct descendants of slave owners(without rape) e.g. Kamala Kahn >=)

-Some white people may be the descendants of black slaves(not good for optics)

-Everyone has different ideas for what would be fair compensation, who should get it, and where it should come from, so few- if any, will be happy about the final outcome

-Families that emigrated to the US after slavery shouldn't have to pay for the past crimes of someone else

-Few families in the US even owned slaves, so why should the whole country have to pay

-The debt has already been paid in blood. Slavery was accepted at the time, so maybe the countries that changed 1st should be celebrated rather than castigated

-Slavery is literally a DRAIN on wealth and hinders progress. Countries that had slavery have historically done worse than countries that hadn't relied on slavery

-Slave owning families may not have retained their generational wealth

-Lost or incomplete records will lead to further complications in finding out who is/isn't eligible even under clearly defined criteria

-It's literally impossible to determine how much wealth a descendant has that was made directly as a result of wealth inherited from slave owning ancestors. Would they have made the same or even more without that inheritance? Who the fuck knows

The trillions of dollars spent on the "War on Poverty" could be considered reparations enough. Consider how that turned out...

It's not about that. It's a way for Democrats to reward their supporters at the expense of their opponents, nothing more. Taking money from all white citizens to pay all black citizens is by design.

I know that's what it's for- political pandering, I'm just explaining that it's a futile endeavour. There are plenty of people who do believe that RaPaRaYsHuNs are going to be some magical band-aid they can slap on racial division or pay the white-man's-burden tax- I just wanted to list out(non-exhaustively) all the ways it's impossible or stupid to attempt it.

The residents won’t get the cash directly. The city says that would likely require them to pay state and federal taxes on it. Instead, the money will go to the financial institution providing a new mortgage or holding an existing one or to the closing agent handling a down payment.

...

I think it would be a different dynamic if reparations became an element of the city budget—of the core city budget—and the city government was saying, ‘We’re going to allocate a hundred million dollars over this period of time to fund the reparations budget.’ ” The city’s annual budget, for reference, is about $300 million. “This is just not costing anyone anything. So they’re OK.” Percy Berger, 72, a former banker and private equity investor and the owner of a home in Evanston’s Lake Shore Historical District, calls the $10 million inconsequential, arbitrary.

He wants to liquidate the city.

I am not as opposed to reparations as some, because it will lead to a vigorous backlash and completely alienate - even more - the working class, Asians and Latinos from identitarianism.

I'm opposed to reparations as I'm opposed to racialism, but the only one that I really don't object to in theory was the reparations given to Japanese families that were forcibly interned and had their homes seized.

It's direct payments to individuals who the government specifically targeted and stole property from. It is not an effort to seek "cosmic justice" from "years of oppression". The government broke the law and stole shit from specific people. Those people must be compensated.

As such, it doesn't work like a reparation payment at all.

When you inflict damages on specific people, it makes sense that you repay those damages. That is what the Japanese received for the businesses and capital built up over generations that were destroyed. It's not "here's a check because you're yellow".

If they ever get serious about reparations, the already out-of-control money printers will get even busier and accelerate (even further) impending hyper inflation. I am definitely opposed.

Well, that's me speaking as a middle class US citizen who will be inevitably brought down to the financial floor due to equity initiatives and conclusion of the Fed and 20th century expansion of the federal gov't.

Just imagine if these scumbags not only started giving away people's money to blacks, but crashed the economy in the process. That would permanently discredit them, and lead to a long sought after reckoning.

It's not going to get any better, you know. A shake-up is far better than being boiled like a frog.

Well, that's me speaking as a middle class US citizen who will be inevitably brought down to the financial floor due to equity initiatives and conclusion of the Fed and 20th century expansion of the federal gov't.

In general, one should make sure that one's possessions are inflation-proof.

I'm reading that the problem is it wasn't enough (bc it never will be) and that it "doesn't count" because it's not coming more directly out of the taxpayers pocket-- sorry not taxpayers, it seems they want it withdrawn from the bank accounts directly, and have a dedicated spot in the cities budget for their handout

The city, to its credit, went out of its way to find a painless source to take that money from. Their intentions were good though their stupidty immeasurable

A part of me wants to see them all get checks just to watch them blow it all on stupid shit that doesn't improve their lives in any meaningful capacity, and then cry when all the cookies are gobbled up and demand more. They'll never learn the lesson, though. It would be every story of a hillbilly redneck winning the lottery, buying a sportscar, and crashing it within a week, but millions of them all at once.
