My guess is that he saw what happened to Rushdie.
Seriously, I have complicated feelings about Dawkins, his science, and his atheism. But I can understand someone saying they don’t want to lose an eye to an Islamic fanatic.
“It would not be appropriate…or who suffered under an oppressive regime.”
So, no poems in praise of Anne Frank?
Texas already has a law stating this, and recently invoked it against Citigroup.
I don’t think this is terribly political or anything. I thought it might be nice to note the death of someone who was an icon for some of us older folks.
“Under Siege” is a silly movie, but Tommy Lee Jones is awesome.
“I got tired of coming up with last-minute desperate solutions to impossible problems created by other fucking people.” pretty much summarized my time in tech support at that Four Letter Computer Company.
“…porn star Riley Reid, who gifted the room a succulent”
I cannot tell a lie. That’s the kind of telling detail I look for in a story.
Or they’re a university student in a basic psych class who needs to participate in research projects to get a grade…
“Not that Hollywood doesn't have the same problem of spending way too much on actors and ... I'm not even sure what they waste so much on.”
Cocaine. Mountains of cocaine.
I remember this episode of “Emergency”.
(Loved that show when I was a little kid.)
I don’t even think “Seven Nation Army” is that good a song.
Servant of God Dorothy Day had an abortion when she was 23 (“the great tragedy of her life”).
She went on to become a famous Catholic social activist and a candidate for sainthood.
Forgiveness is possible.
I don’t think so…
The prize is the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
It was not one of the Nobel Prizes established and endowed by Alfred Nobel, is not an official Nobel Prize, and should not be treated or referred to as one.
🎶🎶🎶 Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me! 🎶🎶🎶
(Sorry. Had to do that.)
I was actually thinking more of Cory Doctrow than Rossman, who I have barely heard of.
All of this sounds good, but I don’t trust the most prominent endorsers any further than I can sling a piano.

“Run Silent” is a very good movie indeed.
Another movie I’d strongly recommend is “12 O’Clock High”. Which is sort of about the bombing campaign over Germany, but is really about leadership: what it means to be a leader, and the cost of being one.
My Saturday movie group has many of these on our list. This is solid work, and thank you for it.
We’ve seen “Touch of Evil”, “Out of the Past”, “The Big Sleep”, and “The Third Man”, all of which I think are great. “Kiss Me Deadly” falls a little short for me, but is still a solid movie.
I don’t much like Ken Jennings or what’s her name. I agree the show should have sunsetted with Alex.
But from what I saw, the man (also current champion) had gotten in his correction before KenJen pronounced his answer wrong, while the woman’s correction came after he pronounced her answer wrong (or at least started to).
My understanding is that this is within the scope of the rules: if you correct yourself before being declared wrong, it counts.
Most annoying to me is that this is such a non-story. Bread and circuses.

I don’t care for his acting.

Hasn’t this procedure already been destigmatized by Katie Couric, Dave Barry, and that waking talking poop box in the TV commercials?
Heh.
I don’t know if folks realize this, but “Soylent Green” is set in…2022. (The book it is somewhat based on is set in 1999.)
Friends and I watched it last week. It is surprising how much of it is true today: I think one of my friends actually made a list.
“it all started on r/cats…”
Of course it did.
Deep cut, sir.
Have an upvote.
“Exposure to ethyl alcohol can cause headaches, nausea, unconsciousness and irritation of the skin and eyes.”
Also regret the morning after, and children nine months after exposure.
