I think the funnier thing for me was that that movie unironically dictated Chinese foreign policy for a while. China has been becoming way more insular in the last few years (combination of old-school commies trying to get back in power, and nations starting to become more hostile toward them), and one of the consequences of this is that China is putting caps on foreign movies. How tight of caps? Hollywood, ALL of Hollywood, is only allowed 10 movies into China per year. After that, they may still be released, but China will take a 100% cut of the revenue. Meaning it is very rapidly becoming a market where there will be VERY limited income, and that is before you get around to the fact that every movie "made for China" (Shang-Chi, Mulan, etc) has been a flop.

Another sign a change in direction might be coming? Disney's new CEO, Bob Chapek, has been notoriously critical about the long-term viability of China as a market (to the point that scuttlebutt behind the scenes is that he has basically written off the Shanghai Disneyland and thinks it will be repossessed by China in the not too distant future) and further rumor says that he is favoring India as a market, as it is more stable and more open to Disney. So much so that India is the only nation where Disney+ actually turns a profit instead of losing money. And with the amount of pull Disney has over the industry, that may lead to others following the leader.

And if you hate the woke stuff, that may be out the window with Chapek too. Because he gained a reputation at his previous job running the parks of not caring how popular or unpopular something was. If it didnt make money, he was going to axe it. And considering woke content is just a giant sucking sound in the money vault...

Here is another one that I saw one time and found interesting. All of the most popular actors in Hollywood? People like Ryan Reynolds, Chris Hemsworth, and Keanu Reeves? Either dont live in Hollywood, or dont socialize in Hollywood. I remember seeing an interview from Chris Hemsworth where he was talking about how he had originally planned on it. Then it turned out it was so toxic and unwelcoming that he moved back to Australia, and then he just flies to Hollywood for business before going home.

It shows you how the problem really is Hollywood, and the culture it has built up. And I will love to watch it all burn and see who takes their place.

You want to know whats funny? That same sort of actiony shit sells well in the US for the same reason: People want movies that are FUN! The occasional arthouse, thinking piece sure. But Hollywood got high on their own farts and thought that they knew better what people wanted. And now they are starting to lose their old as people take up new hobbies and medium. Because I assure you, it is absolutely no coincidence that Anime exploded in popularity around the same time that Hollywood started huffing a little too hard.

It probably is in "too late" territory. Because you have entire generations of Chinese people who were raised as only children, so they only have a single child themselves. If they even HAVE children in the first place. Many take up the same sort of carefree life having their income all to themselves with no children.

Which has caused wages in China to start climbing big time, which means many companies are looking for new places to set up shop that have lower wages and less opportunity to have the situation blow up in their face. As I have said in several other threads, I have seen a lot of product at my work go from being made in China to being made in Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, etc), and that is before you get back to some companies actually starting to come back to the United States because the shipping cost are getting so extreme its cheaper to pay higher wages in the US than go overseas (although most of that Heavy Industry is going to the South rather than the Rust Belt, so there will still be issues up there).

Oh by the way: Another thing that they are worried is heading for China? A housing bubble so extreme it will make 2008 look like a jog in the park. And when that happens, good luck getting foreign investors (which are basically the only think propping up China right now).

At least from what I have heard, a lot of manufactures are starting to leave China now. A consequence of the population bomb that China is currently going through (due to their One-Child Policy blowing up in their face) is that Chinese labor is no longer as cheap as it used to be. So now you have companies, who were already sick and tired of having their IP stolen and then sold back to them for pennies, looking for new nations to build out into. I have seen it with my own job, where a lot of the clothing we sell has gone from "Made in China" to "Made in Guatemala", "Made in El Salvador", and I have seen some of our new shoes with "Made in Vietnam".

I also remember Walmart saying they were going to move a lot of their production to India. And since Walmart is the largest importer in the country, a lot of smaller companies will piggyback on their trade routes because its cheaper that way.

I really do think a lot of what we are seeing go down with China is them being at the end of their rope and starring down a "Collapse of the Soviet Union" tier event, and they are scrambling to make it stop.

I am not denying that the Taiwanese military is garbage. I am saying that the Chinese military, after you look past their face, aint much better. You have officers who are in charge through corruption or party loyalty, which is the sort of situation that lead to the Soviets getting spanked on by the equally underequipped and outdated Finnish military.

You have Chinese soldiers who dont believe in their own abilities, but hide it out of fear. I remember a post made on the Chinese Twitter equivalent, where they were all getting hyped up and talking about the glory of taking over Taiwan. Then on soldier got the nerve to pipe up and say something to the effect of "While I dont doubt we would do it, is it possible we have a little more time to train? you know, just to be sure." Que the overall commander of the Chinese military coming in to tell him "If you ever say anything like that to disrupt morale again, I will ensure you are in the first wave with the commandos attacking the bunkers, and if you show any cowardice I will shoot you myself." Because history shows that forced soldiers do spectacular jobs in warfare and totally dont cut and run the first opportunity they see.

There is also far more will to win against China than anything to do with Afghanistan. And that applies to a lot of the nations in the region, who woke up REAL fast when Hong Kong got steam rolled. The Kiwis will be a thorn in the side because they seem to still be backing China, and the Philippines is in a stalemate (Duterte is Pro-China, but most of the government and population is Pro-US). But Australia just kicked the Chinese out and took back a lot of their shit, Japan is talking about taking up the sword and reembracing Bushido, the S. Koreans are looking at carriers and going "Where can we get one of those?", and India is ready to go screaming over the mountains to dish out of revenge on China. This wont be a nearly one-sided affair like Afghanistan was.

Maybe I am wrong. Maybe Taiwan is Kill. But I am not so blackpilled on the situation, and I think that it is still a war we can win. It just that now there may BE a war when we could have avoided it before.

We have also started seeing a lout of countries moving from the China to USA camp, if for no other reason than “You may be in the grip of retardation right now, but there is at least a chance you will change back. And China is clearly evil.”

In my neck of the woods, a lot of people are offering sign-ons, but you need to work for a certain amount of time before you get the bonus so that people cant game it. Additionally, $16/hr would be considering very good money (its about $3/hr more than I make working a reasonably skilled job). And $27/hr would be considered EXTREMELY good money. We are talking "very few jobs above you" level money. You need to be in a highly skilled job to even get close to that kind of money (ie: the welders at a local manufacturing plant make between $18/hr-$24/hr, but also only work 32 hr. per week)
