Just got started listening to the show this morning on the way to work, haven't gotten too deep into it yet, but based on the topics on the roster, here's my thoughts:
-
Pandering tokenism in games is inherently more racist than straight-up leaving out "representation", because it's effectively reducing the character to only the color of their skin, their bits between their legs, or whether they want to rub those bits on someone of the same sex. It doesn't give a damn about the character's motivations, its backstory, or anything else, and it turns them into a series of checkboxes on a list that are there so the developer can avoid getting put on blast and the Diversity Officers in the company can get headpats from their wokie clique.

Chat in League has been toxic AF for ages, so I can't say as I'm surprised that Riot shut it down. That being said, I can remember back in the day of the early Internet that people actually grew a thicker skin and threw back the insults just as good as they got, instead of whining about how much that hurt their widdle feewings.
-
CSI... Man, I can't believe I ever watched that show back in the day. It's become so massively out of touch with reality it's mind-boggling.
-
Chappelle did nothing wrong, and if your movement is so weak that you get all butthurt over being joked about, then your movement isn't worth a damn.

"Superman" (read: Jon Kent) having his switch flipped to Bi is only half the fuckery. DC took his boyfriend and gave him super powers as well. The power? The ability to become intangible, so absolutely nothing bad can ever happen to him in-universe. Yep, they made his boyfriend "Fridge"-proof, because ghawd forbid that anything bad ever happen to a gay/bi/alphabet person in fiction.

Black hobbits. Let's let that one sink in for a bit. Black hobbits. Now, granted, I could see a potential place in the Middle Earth canon where there might be hobbits that are of a darker skin color, but considering that the majority of LOTR story happens in a part of Middle Earth that is effectively an analogue for Medieval Fucking England, explain to me exactly how the fuck there are supposed to be black hobbits in the shire?
Because "Muh Representayshun", apparently. Never mind the fact that like most pronoun people, you can't tell what the hell they want to be called by their outward appearance. Nope, it's all about being able to have control over you by getting to bitch at you because you either didn't ask about their pronouns up front, or you slipped up and used the wrong thing in front of them.
In his view, independent crowdfunded comics are at the dawn of the next great age in the medium, and as such Van Sciver urges everyone to support these comics and their creators – but especially for said creators to support one another.
While EVS has a point there, there's definitely an issue of visibility and promotion when it comes to both publishing and supporting indy books. Having to do everything direct-order puts a huge amount of work on the artist doing the book when it comes to marketing and getting their book out there in front of the eyes of potential fans. There have been a ton of books that I found out about way too late in their IndieGoGo or Kickstarter campaigns to be able to chip in and get a copy. This is further compounded by the creator not doing reprints or ondemand publishing, leaving the potential reader without a good jumping-on point.
From the Daily Mail article about this waste of carbon atoms:
She also admitted in the podcast interview that she found loading blanks into a gun to be 'the scariest' thing because she did not know how to do it and had sought help from her father, legendary gunsmith Thell Reed, to get over the fear.
Seriously? Loading blanks into a gun was scary because she didn't know how to do it? Unless you machined the blanks yourself, exactly what the fuck is there to be afraid of, especially if you've loaded guns before?
It's not rocket science to avoid accidents like this. Baldwin broke every rule of gun safety in the book when he discharged the weapon. This thot broke every rule of gun safety when she didn't double-check the gun before she handed it to him and called that it was a "cold gun". Both of them should be up on manslaughter charges for this, at a minimum.
It's grade-school level of bullshit with them, right down to the whole "the second guy that throws the punch is the one that gets in trouble with the playground monitor" aspect of them attacking someone and then screaming for the camera as the person retaliates.
People forgot the cardinal rule of the Internet: "Don't feed the trolls".
File that under "Oh, honey, puh-lease." I've been in gay bars back when I was fresh out of college and I'd go bar-hopping with one of my female roommates. Her and her friends would use me as the "safety net" and act like I was their boyfriend if they were ever getting hit on by someone that couldn't take no for an answer. Occasionally they'd want to hit up one of the gay bars on the strip, and the dudes in there were infinitely more aggressive (and passive-aggressive) with their fronting and posturing than any of the guys in the regular watering holes.
On top of that, exactly when was the last time you actually went to an everyman's pub, Daniel Craig? Guarantee you his ass hasn't set foot in a regular bar since before he signed on as Bond.
My general (no pun intended) state of mind is to never trust the work ethic of a woman with a manicure that looks like she didn't apply the nail polish herself and/or sticks out more than a quarter inch past the end of her fingertips. If they are, then you know that woman isn't doing anything aside from maybe using those dragon lady tips to type on a keyboard.
Not to be that guy, but my IT-background-based knee-jerk reaction is "have you tried rebooting your phone?"
Honestly, if that didn't get rid of the remnants then I'd be looking for the most recent backup I had of the phone pre-install and restoring to that.
Moot point on the web traffic thing - the Tasmania sub has gone private "because we can't keep up with the doxxing posts and comments about individuals relating to the cause of the COVID lockdown."
I don’t know why so many people are picking this particular Metroid game as their hill to die in, it seems pretty standard to the rest of the series difficulty wise.
Because most of them probably haven't played a "Nintendo-Difficult" game in ages and they're too used to having their hands held through every last bit of every game out there. Hell, I saw one article using the now-trite Dark Souls comparison for it. I haven't played it yet, but it sounds like there's nothing in it that you wouldn't have seen in Super Metroid, Fusion, or Samus Returns. Games haven't gotten harder, people have turned into entitled pussies that don't know how to git gud.
"There's no indication on the map, there's no indication visually, that the ceiling needs to be shot"
Uh, there's enemies in the space above the ceiling, there's obviously space in the room where one could aim up at it, and the Metroid series is fucking known for having places where you're supposed to blast the ceiling/floor/walls to progress that are obfuscated from the player's view. Not to mention, basic ammo is free, so what's it going to cost you to try and plink at everything in a dead end if you're stuck?
Dude obviously wants the "breakable wall" look on everything that should be destructible in a game, and ends up sounding like a whiny bitch in the process.
EDIT: OMG, could you imagine the level of salt he'd generate if he actually tried to play Hollow Knight?
They project like a pre-Covid multiplex theater on a Friday night, what do we expect? Notice how quick the ACAB/Defund the Police rhetoric died once the had the reins of the system? How it was suddenly verboten for the press to splatter COVID numbers all over the news once Biden took the oval office? They aren't against the things they piss and moan about, they want to be the ones in control of what they claim they are against.
Because there's always an incoming stream of elitist pricks who think their farts smell better than anyone else's and know how to run the gaming industry better than anyone actually in it.
If you haven't read Roadside Picnic and you are into sci-fi, it's worth a read, but be aware that it's a bit grim and dark. Not in the "blood and guts get splattered everywhere by aliens" sense, but more in the "this is the world we now live in and I have to risk my life to make a better one for my family, regardless of the toll it takes on me or my relationship to them" sense. As expected, it spirals down from there.
That's the thing, though - when we were that age we didn't think about it, or we were maybe starting to show an interest in the opposite sex. Kids now are being blasted left and right by degenerate propaganda from a very young and impressionable age, and the people we trusted to guide them outside of the circle of family have become the very ones that are grooming them into believing that they're gay/trans at age 12 because they're confused about what's happening to their bodies and desires as they hit puberty.
That low, whirring sound you hear is Frederic Wertham spinning in his grave.
I've noticed that the snack foods in the "impulse grab" section of our local WalMart (i.e. the bits right before the cash registers) have been dwindling over the last couple months, and some of the racks in other sections of the store are looking pretty bare. The powers that be had better get their asses in gear before the "bread and circuses" run out, or they'll be looking at real riots on their hands.
Dial-up or satellite are pretty much the only options in a lot of remote places in the US. SoyLibs wouldn't be able to handle the lack of speed or their inability to update their Twitter feed in realitime.
This is the truth of it, right here. If you have a team of ten people in a department, eight of which are typical women and diversity hires, and the other two of which are the hetero white/asian guys who were there before HR "diversified" the hiring, those last two are going to be pulling the entire weight of the department.
Not gonna happen. Blue-state tech-savvy millennials don't want to live in places where you can literally freeze your ass off in the winter and it's hard to a get decent Internet connection if you're living anywhere other than an urban outpost. They can't get motivated to do anything other than complain about conservatives over their lattes. You're not going to motivate them to uproot themselves and shift over to a state where they view the entire populace as hostile.
Sadly, you can no longer cut the knees out from the other side of the box, glue them behind the box she's holding, then trim around the box to turn it into a flap you can lift and see the "boobs". The things the youth of today will miss out on...
Haven't listened to the episode yet, but just based on the blurb, my thoughts are:
-
In Waypoint's defense, Far Cry 6 basically being yet another iteration on "craft shitloads of stuff to upgrade the base" is annoying. That being said, if a reviewer can't even do their job and finish the game, then why the hell are they even working in the industry? Oh, wait, it's because it's the lowest-hanging fruit you can shoot for and still call yourself a "journalist", while blasting your leftist opinions all over the place.
-
Ehrmagerd Twitch streamers are mostly men! Guess what? Most people who are into video games are men! Next thing you know they'll be bitching about how less than 50% of streamers are black/latino/some other non-white ethnicity...
-
Male vs Female has turned into "Big Armor" vs "Little Armor"? Oh for fuck's sake...
-
Once again we see John Walker Flynt trying to insert xirselves into the narrative of GamerGate, despite really only being a footnote in the whole thing and being best known for harassing "herself" into leaving one room in her house to broadcast from another. Fucking pathetic.
Separatist talk doesn't necessarily equal treason, but these types seem like the kind that would try to create their own "nation" via force rather than proper legal channels - which would be tantamount to treason - and then try to mooch off of existing infrastructure because they didn't take into account the need for a power plant, water delivery, sewage treatment, etc.
Not American comics. DC and Marvel's current offerings are getting destroyed by Manga when it comes to overall sales.
