disclaimer: haven't played it, am downloading now (~9gb) going to be at least another hour for me. The game was released at the beginning of 2021 but this is was the first I heard of it.
Saw this gameplay vid on odysee and decided to investigate. I played the original Shadow of Chernobyl extensively when it was released and also played through Call of Pripyat a couple of times.
For those more out of the loop than me STALKER is an FPS, released in 2007, set in the "Zone" which is a restricted area around Chernobyl. Following the disaster weird shit started to happen there and the military sealed off the area. STALKERs are people who break the quarantine and run around the Zone treasure hunting and shooting each other. There is a plot but that isn't really the interesting part. The atmosphere of the Zone and the immersive gameplay is the real draw. The game was ambitious and in development for nearly 10 years. It had tons of features cut from the final release that modders were able to access and restore.
STALKER Anomaly is a standalone game game based on the last STALKER release Call of Pripyat. The blurb on the page says it uses a custom fork of the original game engine used by the STALKER series. I can't imagine how much work went into a project this big.
If you haven't read Roadside Picnic and you are into sci-fi, it's worth a read, but be aware that it's a bit grim and dark. Not in the "blood and guts get splattered everywhere by aliens" sense, but more in the "this is the world we now live in and I have to risk my life to make a better one for my family, regardless of the toll it takes on me or my relationship to them" sense. As expected, it spirals down from there.
I actually just picked it up the other day, but haven't gotten around to spending time with it yet.
