Shounen has lost of of its appeal-to-boys-only style (allegedly because it is profitable) in contrast to shoujo. I guess that mirrors changes in western media. I don't know how up-to-date you might be but some recent ones I have watched are Fire Force (fighting fire with fire), early parts of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (punching vampires with the power of sunlight), Food Wars (extreme cooking), and Demon Slayer (slice demons with a katana). I avoid some of them because the fanbases are annoying like Jujutsu Kaisen. Some I just have not seen yet like Baki.

I don't think we are going to have any more shows that run weekly for years like One Piece, Dragon Ball, or Naruto.

It is tempting to blame diversity which can be part of it but I'm going to blame a cabal of like-minded people who decide who writes for the big two. That highlights another problem. The west, or rather America, is just the same few characters written over and over again telling the same stories again. Capeshit as someone already said. Japan manages to have anthology magazines in which chapters of various stories are published together. France manages to have range of stories in their Bandes Dessinee besides some regulars like Asterix.

That was the worst thing about Avatar 2, even worse than the titular character. The 1910-1920 New York City setting was incredibly off-putting. No attempt at making it fit the previous world or try to be a progression of it, it was just The Big Apple with magic powers. More zeppelins though which was nice. I gave up after a few episodes so maybe it makes sense later.

Didn't the tanks and that one big drill of the Fire Nation require constant use of bending for power? The industrial revolution was about finding harnessing energy to remove the need for labor. How that works in a world with dudes blasting fire I have no idea. I probably shouldn't think hard about it.

For my part the gay stuff is off-putting but not enough to not buy because allegedly it's an option you'd have to pursue in-game to actually encounter. If they had some gay developers saying "look at this gay stuff" would make it worse, I mean more than they are already.

I'm not buying because while KCD was a fantastic technical achievement I sucked way too much at the combat and am not keen for more. I had to cheese my way though the early story mission where you rescue the guy you can now turn into your best bottom buddy. Eventually I got bored after losing to bandits in the wild and thought that was enough.

[EDIT] Two final points. I have enough games to be playing I don't really need to buy more. I don't really think the default inaction of not-buying counts as a boycott.
