For people worried that Sakurai is completely dismissing the West, he isn't he simply understands that Western gamers prefer Japanese things to have a Japanese flair to them (media.kotakuinaction2.win)

There was no misunderstanding, that's exactly what we wanted. We liked the Japanese games for what they were, just translated into English, we didn't want them to suddenly "cater to Western tastes," especially considering how shit "Western tastes" (IE, liberal progressive alt-sex dominance) became.

I'm still pissed at that wig scene. They wanted to piss us off, it worked. Gameplay is supposedly good but I never touched that one for aforementioned reasons.

Exactly. If I wanted a western game I'd go to a western developer. When I go to a Japanese developer for a game it's because I want what Japanese developers create. I don't want them to change up their operations to try to appeal to me by westernizing their games. Like fuck man, where am I gonna go to get my Japanese games if all the Japanese devs insist on cranking out western games?

The subtext is pretty obvious here. The recent success of Asian games in the west is a direct result of western gamers seeking refuge from the cultural Marxism that has overrun western game dev. Western developers are floundering, so why would any foreign developers copy those failing woke blueprints?

Here is hoping a lot of them listen and keep making great Japanese games and not fall for the "global audience". I kinda miss the really whacky games, we don't see any LSD dream emulators or mystical ninja anymore.

Mr. Mosquito, Jumping Flash, Katamari, Disaster Report, I miss em too, we need more wackiness.

Damn, I forgot about Disaster Report. Been ages since I last had someone talk about it. Jumping Flash did not even occur to me that it was a bit different, probably one of my first PS1 games ever. Yes, I want more of those games that are super creative.

Disaster Report 4 is on Switch and PC, somewhat current. I always lump Jumping Flash in the group just because it's so off the wall. PS1 had some real magic. First time I played the demo for Wipeout, total game changer.

Money and middlemen telling them that is what the west wants.

“Western players buy Japanese games with the expectation that they will provide something different from Western-developed games, so there’s no need for Japanese stufios to adapt.”

Wow it only took them like twenty-five years but somebody finally figured it out.

If I wanted some Ubisoft slop, I'd buy Ubisoft slop. I buy JRPG slop because I want that JRPG slop.

Even more of an accurate and based take. This is why the liberalized world of multiculturalism is doomed and why nationalism is on the rise across the globe. People love their own ways and people more than they hate the other, and it is specifically the unique differences in culture that makes people interested in the first place. I liked the idea of visiting Paris a lot more before it became yet another global megacity.

I still remain consistently flattered at their anime, vidya, and manga that is a love-letter to knightly, heroic European myth & history. They even do classical ost's better than modern composers in many cases. Everywhere else the other artists have hatred, mockery, and vitriol, none moreso than amongst our own creative class. But many Japanese, like Tolkien, uphold the beauty and show what could be again. For that they have my thanks, my smile, and support. I pray that I am able to return such a offering with a equal measure of goodwill in the bad times ahead.

I felt the same with The Witcher 3 and the discourse around 'no black people'.

The game was Slavic af and that's what I loved about it. Just diving into a culture other than my own. But these people focused so intently on skin colour that they just see white people as some huge cultural monolith.

I really appreciate that someone at his level understands this and is able to articulate it openly. This is exactly what many, many, many, anime and jrpg(or japanese games in general at this point) really have been asking for.

I certainly hope even a few devs keep this in mind and continue to work on games with this sort of mindset. Fingers crossed

I hope this is enough to bring Ganbare Goemon to our shores with translations.

Really western gamers just want games made that appeal to actual gamers, not the press, which explicitly hates gamers.
