I would expect that to be terrible anyway as my understanding and recall (it's been ages since I read the books) is that really nothing more than the premise itself comes from Tolkien's works and the writers are making up the rest of it. They can totally add gays and frizzy haired black women now.
Still can't believe it's been 25 years since the original trilogy was filmed (and was filmed all at once, since Pervert Weinstein didn't believe in the movies at first, but Peter Jackson got approval to film all three movies in a row), and it's the best adaptation of a novel series of all time, but considering how long it's been since ROTK, and the fact the Scouring of the Shire never got put on the Silver Screen, idk why they're going with a prequel.
Jackson wants to put the entire Legendarium on film, but I don't that's going to happen before certain people die. Bernard Hill, who played Theoden (and Captain Smith in Titanic) and Christopher Lee, who played Saruman (and was rejected for Dumbledore due to having played Saruman) are both dead.
It'll be shit. There is no one alive who is capable of adding anything new to Tolkien's universe that won't be immediately apparent as drastically inferior. And putting the hunt for Gollum to screen will involve making up a ton of stuff, as Tolkien didn't write much detail about what actually happened. It'll be like asking some jeet who works at GM to complete an unfinished Enzo Ferrari design. Tolkien was a once in a century writer and his equal has likely not even been born yet. They will be reading and teaching Tolkien 500 years from now. Nothing anyone else has tried to add will be remembered a decade from now.
Agreed. The truly terrifying lived experiences of Tokiens life and his humility produced his stories...spoiled rich Hollywood writers will never even come close
Lord of the Rings has rapidly been transformed into a slop mill, and they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for ANYTHING they can use to sell a product to the masses (or more accurately, the mythical modern audience). I don't know what the hell made them think they could make a feature-length film off of half a page of exposition explaining how a filthy little gremlin (I know Gollum's a Stoor, people, I'm just being bitter and facetious) got from point A to point B to point C. It's a stupid idea, and that's without taking into account the Current Yearisms we know they're going to shoehorn into it.
Perfect example of third generation ruination. The first generation creates, the second generation maintains, and the third generation pisses it all away. It happens over and over basically everywhere in life. JRR created, Christopher carefully maintained, and the next generation burned it all to the ground for a quick buck.
Just remember that in 2014 Peter Jackson added a Cunt-Elf into the story that didn't exist in the books just so a girl boss could boss her way around the screen. Back then they made her feminine and a love interest to soften the blow but this is 2026. You will get no such concessions.
You can't make a series like this and have anyone give a shit. We all know nothing comes out of it and we all know how that story ends, Gollum fucks off in a cave for 500 years after getting the ring.
Bilbo finds it.
Gollum hangs around in a cave.
Frodo comes along.
Golum dies in Mt. Doom
Making a movie about hunting down a character we know they never find is a massive waste of time.
Why are these fucks so insistent on making Gollum so fucking important? I know he's the idealized version every jew wants to be a cave dwelling creep with a gold ring, but a shit game that no one liked and now this?
To be fair, it is mentioned (by Aragorn, iirc) that they did find Gollum before the Hobbits left the Shire, but he escaped before the Council of Elrond.
That said, everything they got out of him was revealed at the Council, so there is absolutely nothing for this movie to expand upon.

Yeah there's not much there. I would suggest watching this video which covers it.

I don't think Sir Lee could have made a good Dumbledore. The first guy they hired for it was great.

Yeah, like the Scooby Doo-esque chase scene with Smaug inside the mountain for The Hobbit.
Jackson did a pretty decent adaptation of LotR, but nearly everything he actually changed made the story worse.
Am I the only one who just wants point for point accurate adaptations?
Or is everyone wanting that the reason they always try to change things?

It’s destruction of culture they don’t care if it sells or if it’s liked

Stephen Colbert is in charge of writing the script. That alone says everything.
This will a huge flop and will become another taint on the legacy of Tolkien.
Calling it now: Gandalf and Aragorn will share a sleeping bag...
Jesus just let it rest. The stories has been told, you've milked it dry already.
Terrible.

Its going to be shit and you know it
The jew cannot create, it can only corrupt what Aryan already made
total useless disgrace of a film
It will be ass.
