You can't make a series like this and have anyone give a shit. We all know nothing comes out of it and we all know how that story ends, Gollum fucks off in a cave for 500 years after getting the ring.
Bilbo finds it.
Gollum hangs around in a cave.
Frodo comes along.
Golum dies in Mt. Doom
Making a movie about hunting down a character we know they never find is a massive waste of time.
Why are these fucks so insistent on making Gollum so fucking important? I know he's the idealized version every jew wants to be a cave dwelling creep with a gold ring, but a shit game that no one liked and now this?
To be fair, it is mentioned (by Aragorn, iirc) that they did find Gollum before the Hobbits left the Shire, but he escaped before the Council of Elrond.
That said, everything they got out of him was revealed at the Council, so there is absolutely nothing for this movie to expand upon.
Terrible.
