I didn't pay much mind to this game because as much as I enjoyed Hitman WoA that last game told me the direction the company was going.
I watched someone play first light to see if it's worth checking out, and it looks like Uncharter and Hitman made a baby. I'm good, I can wait for a sale.
Then they get to the office and you see a black Moneypenny who is now Bond's Diana, and M who is some Indian lady in her early 40s, which makes no sense.
Anyways, I'm not getting this game until someone make a mod that fixes this and make it more accurate to source material.
And I'll ignore said mod and go for the mod where both of them are bottomless and hot.

I'm not gonna defend this game and I didn't get there in the let's play video I watched, the first hour plays like a tutorial and cinematic thing, I'm not a fan of, I think Hitman 2016 the tutorial and then Paris was perfect way to get you into the game without too many cutscenes and expositions.
But that garbage truck part looks like a gameplay set piece thing, and if I were a betting man they either said, when we give the truck hp no one is clearing this thing, let's make it 2026 baby soft bullshit.
If you play on hardest difficulty and you're still able to breeze thru the core gameplay, that would be something I'd take a bigger issue with.
I did see that in the tutorial while running around in training everything is marked to tell you where to go. Not a fan of that.
I think I'll watch the first real mission and if it's just Uncharted, 3rd person CoD and Hitman lite, I think I'm just gonna go load up Sapienza and forget about all about this nasty business.
The only thing I'll admit from the streams I've watched: I thought the "training montage" format of the early tutorial was endearing, but the introduction of MI6 did go on for way too long (or maybe that was the fault of the streamers).
It's a game loaded with hallway walking and cutscenes. It's not much of a game at all.

I couldn't get past the casting. They could have hired anyone... anyone, and they went with a guy who has a face no one would remember.
They could have cast Henry Cavill (a fan favourite) or Taron Egerton (if they couldn't afford Cavill), or any number of up-and-coming Welsh actors if they really wanted someone young and not yet famous. Just siome bloke with a memorable face, a commanding voice, and a strong, masculine presence. Yet, that's not who they went with.
But I'm glad you pointed out all the DEI hires in this game, because it lets me know this is just more humiliation ritual.
I had my eye briefly on this game because the Hitman engine is PERFECT for a Bond game. Everything to be a cool Bond is already built into the framework, yet they somehow managed to make a game that seems boring, soulless, and with paint-by-numbers gameplay.
Both a tragedy and a travesty.
I also get the feeling they may use the poor reception/sales as an excuse to say "See, straight White male leads don't sell games. We're going for a DEI Bond in the next game".

I mean ultimately it's a voice actor. Couldn't find a dude with a decent Chad British accent, even if the face won't match?
Then the mouth movements wouldn't match. I highly suspect every video game now uses face scans of the voice actors so mocap does all the work.

After watching Synthetic Man stream both this and Nightfire, it's stark how much we've lost. Nu-Bond can't go five steps without being forced into a slow-walking segment or harangued by girlbosses. Meanwhile, Brosnan Bond's jumping out of planes and kissing bitches. Synth even joked about how "aggressively straight" Nightfire was.

That was IO that made it? They should stick to their niche even if they have to find a different angle. A Bond game sort of has to be a string of awful ridiculous setpieces. M being Indian and Moneypenny being black isn't an issue, if anything the story leans into it and makes it, as it should, perfectly normal.
The issue is that IOI stole from Hitman players by making them repurchase content.

This is like when people make excuses for girl bosses because "the story explains it". It's not hard to write a narrative excusing or rationalizing every leftist idea in existence. Properly setting up your feminist payoffs doesn't make them any less feminist.
Judy Dench's M stripped Pierce Brosnan's Bond down to his core and he was fine with it. Their dynamic was pivotal during his run and their arc together is what held his films together. In the game Ponsonby sort of takes up that role, M is much more like the Ralph Fiennes version and is focused on the job above all else.
You could maybe be onto something with Moneypenny being a field agent instead of doing Ponsonby's role, but you can blame Daniel Craig's era for that and the game works just fine with her as is.
IOI could have screwed up the game easily and still made bank. They didn't though.
It's fun and throwaway. And much better than any of the Daniel Craig movies.
