Stellar Blade is a solid game straight out of the "PS2 action game you rented and played all weekend" era. Something I think we all have our favorite of, and if it was priced closer to that would probably be an unquestionable good game relatively.
It is interesting to stop and consider, however, that creators are now having to compete with the best of everything ever made, as we can still buy and play most good games which have ever been released.
Yes, Concord would still have flopped spectacularly, but it's just an interesting thing to consider regarding the changing face of competition as the world adjusts to the Internet.
"Competitive market" is not the right term. What he should've said was "oversaturated market", which would be partially true. However, that's not why Concord failed.
With a reputation like they have, I'm surprised they get any.
They slandered Obama and then Trump, celebrated Biden and screwed over Japan. Chinese and Korean firms outperform them (And do so cheaper) and there's more ahead on that front.
But, and I mean this from the heart, thanks for the DualShock 4 controller :)
I don't believe they believe that. I believe they just lie about shit for optics and because they think people are stupid (and they're mostly right about that)
This would be a reason why it would have failed regardless on if they fixed all the other major things wrong with it. Its a massively oversaturated genre with a few titans you'd need to peel players out of to really get a foothold.
Marvel Rivals only managed by a combination of fanservice heavy and established characters. People would have cared a fraction of an amount if "generic chinese anime girl" had massive thighs, but its different when its Emma Frost.
Concord had none of that, and a shit ton working against it before you even hit that point. Its like blaming an infection for killing you after you had your limbs blown off.
Didn’t they have a six live service games planned? Doesn’t it seem silly to bank so hard on entering an already “overly competitive market” with more of the same?
It is not wrong. Competitive market means you can settle for something better then cringe woke crap
And Industries attack dogs(urnalist) are doing everything to shit on clair 33 and stelar blade with flopping results.
Seriously in a time where games are now 90 dollarydoos. Consumers pause for a bit before consuming next product
E33 is one of the best games to come out in a long damn time.
Stellar Blade... Less so, but it's good eye candy/fan service.
They're trying to cope with some people making games that gamers want, instead of pushing their propaganda without pushback

Right? Is “competitive market” just a euphemism for capitalist? lol
This could have been the only game available to buy all year, and it still would have flopped.

I mean, if they assume that it's a highly competitive market for wokist crap, maybe.
It released and died before Marvel Rivals, which is extremely popular. Try again.
They will say anything except the most obvious truth.
Also, most of the game dev “layoffs” over the last few years were just cleaning out the useless DEI hires.
The head execs are dei hires themselves. And guess whose not getting the ax...

Sony can believe what they want.
Proof is in the sales.

There is truth to this, but it's a tiny factor compared to everything else.
There are many reasons why Concord failed.
The biggest being a toxic positivity work environment that forbid negative things being said.
But that's not the only thing. It's just a big contributing factor.
>Concord failed because of an overly competitive market
>"not gonna make the same mistakes with Marathon"
Oh so they're planning to release Marathon into an alternate dimension where no other similar video games exist, a canny move.
I don't believe they believe that. I believe they just lie about shit for optics and because they think people are stupid (and they're mostly right about that)
Most of these comments are made entirely for the board of directors and to assuage them from panic selling or ousting you from the company.
Gotta calm the stock holders

Believe whatever you want Sony. The markets will decide if you live or die.

They probably figured if they threw six at the wall, one would stick and give them liscence to print money for a decade.
