Checked all the usual shill sites and it has been cancelled. I say good. The tone of the sites was about how they are leaving fantasy fans high and dry and insisted that the 3rd season was getting good. Some comments from show fans attacked book fans for being critical of the show by using the stupid "the books are the books and the show is the show" argument.
They act like we don't understand that some changes need to be made when adapting a story from book to tv/movie. This showrunner made zero attempt to respect the source material that already had plenty of female empowerment to go with.
Maybe I'm petty but when they announced the cast of the show I knew it wouldn't be good. I guess the one benefit of race and gender swapping is that is shows the priorities of the people in charge.
Never watched the show, never read the books, have no skin in this game...but good. Fuck these garbage adaptations that exist as communist propaganda vehicles.
Now if only we would get similar announcements for The Witcher and Rings of Power.
It's the ultimate Brown M&M test. If they are adamantly refusing to get something as simple as the freaking skin color of the characters right, you know they won't do any of the more complex stuff right either.
And what is crazy is that in the books they venture out and meet people in different regions of all races so you already had “diversity”. The main characters are from a small town and the book goes to great lengths to talk about how there have been like a 1000 years since any meaningful outside world contact so of course the show has it look like NYC.
Exactly. The geography and ethnic groups in WoT were relevant to the story, especially the Two Rivers being a such backwater for over a millennium that their nominal monarch only knew of them as a note on a map. Turning the Two Rivers into a community college brochure was ridiculous. Rand being an outlander was pretty important. All this is before we get into WoT having many many many essential women characters that all wound up being Flandersized caricatures (Galbrush paradox, if your prefer) in the show.
To be honest I only watched bits of the show to know how bad it was. Amazon's WoT really affirms my choice of refusing to watch even a single episode of their rape of Tolkien (and irl went as far as criticizing friends and family for watching). Good riddance.
I heard with Ring of Power they fired the Tolkien Scholar they had
Wouldn't surprise me. Just in case you think you can breathe easy now; don't forget we have Greta Gerwig's rape of Narnia coming up. Two things she has said so far include making the story "more rock and roll," and the need to "move past the books' pre-Victorian morality." So, yeah.
And it’s gonna be Netflix and Netflix cares less about source material than prime
It's why I couldn't get into Greedfall. Magical colonialism premise was ruined by every faction being a rainbow of racial diversity.
You're not petty. These abominations deserve to die and they always do, in the same agonizing way. Star wars did. Witcher is dying. The ring of power will.
Granted SW has never been exclusively white but they did make it retarded, and the other fantasy genres they deliberately "diversified" them to spite whites, so fuck them.
It's heartening to see these cocksuckers projects die at the expected time. They can't make up excuses for why they fail.
And for the people claiming it's not bad because of the race swapping, YOU'RE WRONG. When someone is sick, they don't die because of boogers. The boogers were merely the most obvious visual clues that something was wrong with them on the inside. The race swapping, similarly, is the outward sign that there is good ng to be something wrong on the insides (script, plot, LGBT bullshit, etc etc). Because there is zero chance they could fuck up all the latter things without doing the former. Race swapping is merely the canary in the coalmine.
The Witcher was always a steaming pile of trash. That female 'king' alone, rofl.
and nothing of value was lost...
13% of the perrins committing 50% of the wife murders
And that was really ridiculous to make such a drastic change like that
So in the books perrin has a whole dream fighting sequence right. A couple of them.
He has to imagine shit and make it become the reality of his dream, right. Sort of like what lucid dreaming is supposed to be.
So how's black perrin supposed to pull that off? If he can't even imagine how he would feel if he didn't have breakfast?
And right there you have put more thought into it than the showrunner
The Perrin thing is so bad. One of the most important parts of his character is that he’s slow to act because he had to be careful of hurting the other children since he was so much bigger growing up. Of all the characters to accidentally kill someone, he’s the least likely.
I'm a massive fan of the books, and didn't make it two minutes in to the show, because they immediately fuck up the One Power in the opening exposition.
So I see threads like these, and thank the lord I have no idea what anyone is talking about, because it all sounds insane.
The showrunner gave Perrin a wife, whom he added to the story only so that Perrin can accidentally hit her with his axe during the Trolloc attack on Emond's Field right at the start of the story. I believe he defended this decision by saying that this loss would help explain why Perrin is later so desperate to protect Faile. Because, obviously, it can't just be that he loves her....
Also, Perrin is black in the show, which is why u/Fistmagic is making a 13/52 joke.
Book 3 is when Rand fucks off and the story starts following others a lot more but the show was already off the rails like that. It was never going to manage doing the story justice and if we are lucky all the names tied to this disaster will be remembered for a long time.
Deserved. Showrunners did this to themselves by injecting so much woke retardedness into the show from day one.
Nynaeve might be The Dragon because who knows it could actually be a woman!
Perrin is already married and then immediately kills his brand new wife with an axe.
The racial makeup of the Two Rivers.
Moraine looking old.
Rand no longer being the main character and showing just how powerful he is.
There's a lot more but I had zero interest in following most of it because I just knew it was never going to work. Crashing and burning is the best thing that could happen to this abomination and I hope it doesn't lead to some retards trying for a third time to adapt this. Yes, there was an attempt before this one, look up Wheel of Time and Billy Zane for a very short scene taken from the prologue of the first book, done so entirely to hold onto the rights.
As I said before, they venture out and meet people of different races. The books really drive home the point how isolated Two Rivers is so like you said the racial makeup is ridiculous. Showrunner was also obsessed with lgbt stuff that wasn’t in the book like Avienda being gay
Showrunners: "We need representation for blacks!"
Anyone that has read the books: THEN FUCKING WAIT FOR TUON YOU INPATIENT RETARDS! SHE'S LITERALLY AN EMPRESS LATER ON!
Showrunners: "But we want it nooow..."
/canceled because of retarded decisions.
Exactly. I was like there is a black empress later in the books if you just wait
Yeah even normies saw: Hmm the cast looks way different than how I imagined when reading. Wow, Two Rivers which I always imagined as a podunk town out in bum fuck, looks like metro London. After watching a few eps, is Rand even in this show? Wait, that guy is Rand? The side character?
There are no endings, and never will be endings, to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But this was not the Wheel of Time. And it was ending.
(And good riddance).
Well said
Just stealing the words of a great.
I heard the show didn’t even use that line about the turning of wheel
But… it’s the opening to every book… and the central conceit of the entire conflict… obviously, I don’t expect them to drop the whole paragraph unedited as raw narration at the start of each season (although even that could work if done well), but you’ve got to find some way to acknowledge it.
It be easy to put in the opening credits. It would make sense. Don't you give them any grace, don't you be reasonable with these people. "The only good commie is a dead commie!"
Jackson's trilogy opened with a monologue. It was pretty sick.
Hand rubbers are stealing your culture and exporting it to the rest of the world (ethnically speaking) with you and yours framed narratively as evil or incompetent. It's not petty for you to complain, or to celebrate when it goes poorly.
Good. That show was a fucking disgrace. In a just world the degenerate behind it would be run out of town and barred from ever running an adaptation again.
I never got into the books, but I always had a sense of kinship with the fantasy genre cause I loved it growing up and its our culture. I just saw a couple videos Shad did tearing them down a couple years ago it looked like typical modern day BS. I loved how the people who came from the same tiny village were somehow different races? Can't fucking stand what faggot normies look past. Thank God this trash got cancelled. Bezos can burn in hell for destroying this and LOTR
Game of Thrones could’ve inspired a bunch of fantasy series. They hire people who just can’t adapt anything without injecting modern day crap
Yeah, modern day faggot leftists are completely incapable of writing anything without their bullshit in it. GRRM is a commie fag and his subversive fantasy BS is a huge reason why the ending of the shows sucked balls and the books will never be finished, but at least he was pre-woke (or at least the modern day version of it) and he's legit talented. These diversity hires have no life experience and are about as deep as a puddle
And they get so upset that fantasy based on European mythology/folklore isn’t diverse enough. I’ve read folklore from Africa, Asia, and Native American. By all means adapt that but they are too lazy. Much easier to bastardize someone else’s work
It fucking infuriates me man. I'm preaching to the choir in this sub so I won't go over why, we all know they hate us, but they can't have white culture existing or any acknowledgement that whites lives together pre diversity. I honestly think it's more about demoralization than anything else, they don't care about adapting other people's cultures, they want to destroy ours.
It's fucking crazy to see the shift around 2016 or so, LOTR, Harry Potter, GOT were all made at the perfect time in history before this BS. It's funny how all three have had modern remakes/sequels etc and just all of a sudden have a bunch of blacks tossed in. Funny how it's almost never Asians, Indians, Arabs, etc, it's always fucking blacks.
Harry Potter books had black and Asian students but it was a good representation of England so it was 95% white. Honestly I have a general rule of thumb not to read or watch anything made after 2014 without a trusted recommendation.
100%, I didn't grow up in a complete 100% ethno state and when it's appropriate I don't mind non white characters. Growing up I never would have thought about or saw anything wrong with it because most stuff was genuine and wasn't trying to rub your face in it and the stuff that was subversive was very subtle and/or was actually genuine. HP feels like a British story because the main characters, most of the secondary ones and the general heart of the story are British, so the handful of black, indian and asian students feel completely natural and nonforced for that time period. Legacy however was awful for that unfortunately and the new show will be as well.
That's a good rule of thumb, that is really when it went off the rails.
Exactly and having racially diverse characters when it doesn’t even make sense. I won’t even start on period pieces.
Tubi/pluto/Freevee are great sources for older content by the way
Lord I hope no one in hollywood ever discovers malazan
He is on my list to read. Agreed. Don’t want anything adapted anymore. I recently bought the Elric books.
Read the entire main book series. And Canadian multiculturalism is well-represented in the book, though with a rusty knife and 'poor-salt-in-the-wound' mentality. One of the main themes is cultures disappearing and fighting the inevitable. He also hints towards some cultures being inferior, but having said that, the Malazan empire's military machine is predicated on turning men and women into fighters, regardless of their origin or cultural heritage.
The series is called Malzan? I’ll just do a search but I’ve heard good things about it
The Malazan Empire - Steven Erikson. The other guy is not a good author. Erikson is an archeologist and he pours a great deal of his knowledge into the books. But unfortunately, he's also Canadian and it shows
Thanks!
Even the action scenes with the fighting sorceresses were dull and those are the only scenes I saw due to Youtube promotional vids from obvious shill accounts.
Did they even make it to using Balefire? Weaving in general should have been a captivating scene and it even has the cheap cop out later on where inverting weaves turns them invisible to channelers so it's not like the cgi budget would have had to do every single weave forever in the story.
Deathgates, Arrows of fire, Fire blossoms, Traveling, all things that would be amazing to see but I doubt the show would ever manage to pull them off properly.
Good
Cue up David Bowie and Mick Jagger
Love this version
Thank god, it was a fucking woke pile of vomit compared to the books.
FYI, I read the first four pages of the first book and decided it wasn't for me.
What did I miss?
A very long and epic fantasy. I loved it but can understand why people wouldn’t like it. The showrunner immediately said he is a feminist and also said he will have more lgbt representation and added a bunch of stuff that wasn’t in the books. Race swapping like crazy even though the books had the characters travel to different lands and meet different cultures.
13,000 pages of fantasy that transitions from country town boys and token female to a full JRPG cast of magic knight, thief, barbarian, and sorceress, plus a cast of minor characters that each have nearly half a book to a whole book worth of their own development over the course of it. That ends on a surprisingly Christian theme that would be spoiler if I explained.
Brandon Sanderson did a tolerable job finishing off the series because Robert Jordan left 2000 pages of notes. It is still a shame that he died befire finishing, and the spinoff series following the thief that was supposed to be a 3 book project sounded interesting and will never be written.
Will it, though? In the age of AI ...
Machine learning algorithms are incapable of original thought. No bastardized vomit is even worth consideration.
Based on 2000 pages of notes, with the AI trained on the previous books to capture the original author's voice? I think it has a high degree of success.
Maybe. The problem with AI is that it's all derivative and it never ventures from the guard rails unless you explicitly tell it to, and even then there's no safe bet it will venture from the guard rails in a logically coherent way that respects the vision of the author.
No. It isn't "AI", stop being confused by modern marketing slop buzzwords. They're pillaging the entire concept of AI as a science fiction item to sell their slop. It is a machine learning algorithm. It does not think. It is not intelligent. It cannot create.
It regurgitates. It produces nothing. And it's worse than retarded, it's crippled to push "the message" too.
Make new shit. Don't violate the legacy of a dead man with typewriter monkey vomit.
Maybe one day I'll finish it, but for some reason I never could get into the Sanderson books.
The last one is long. Insanely long. The chapter for 'The Last Battle' alone is longer than some other novels and it's something like a whole ninth of the book.
If you made it all the way through what, twelve novels and stopped before the last three it's worth it to finish. Sanderson isn't as good as Jordan, but the story gets it's ending and it isn't as cliched as you might expect.
If you just don't like sanderson so haven't started WOT at all, that's different.
I started back when there were six or seven novels and reread the early ones a few times over the years aa new ones came out, but only made it through one and a half Sanderson novels before getting sidetracked, then managed to accidentally get spoiled on the last book before getting back to it. I'll probably get around to finishing it eventually.
Re-watched the LOTR trilogy recently and was reminded that the rings of power exists. They still have the ugly black dwarf on the promo thumbnail. Not sure how many seasons they got but surely not many
