Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds or even Alan Ritchson would be better choices for Johnny Cage. Urban works better in gruff, gritty roles over a clean-shaven actor role.
Not super knowledgeable about Mortal Kombat, and haven't been following the movie at all, but at a glance I've seen much worse casting choices. This will likely still be ass, since it's Current Year, but they could have done a lot worse.
Depending on early reports, I might end up watching this (for free almost certainly), as it is always interesting to check out video game movies...usually bad interesting, but still. This might be so bad it's...well, still bad, but interestingly so. Who knows.
As is tradition, with Kano in the original movie carrying so hard they literally retconned that version of him into the game and erased his original form.
Only the Scorpion vs Sub-Zero stuff was good. They could have based an entire movie around the first 15 minutes or so. Everything else was slop with the exception of Kano, who was the only one who was both believable and fun to watch. The main character with his literal plot armour was annoying and lame.
Jade was more of a brown color. But the left upon seeing even mildly olive colored skin immediately screams black.

Jade was the Thai equivalent of Japanese Kitana, there’s absolutely no design that had her blackinese with a weave

Honestly that casting isn't bad, but they aren't showing enough skin to be accurate. The game was all about skin and blood.
Later MK games made the women as fully clothed and masculine as possible. Meanwhile the dudes were still in speedos.

Sure. It has some good fights abd decent gore at times. I don't understand why we got an original main character with a roster of 12 games.

They fail to understand that even most fans of MK dont give two fucks about the story and just want action, gore & hot chicks in skimpy outfits.
And the fact that the original movie managed to do it just fine using Johnny Cage for general questions and Lui Kang for specific ones.
