As a kid I watched hockey a bit, back then there was a clear ethnic aspect of the hockey scene in Quebec, which is now almost taboo from what I glance when my father listen to local sports comentary. When identity is invoqued for association, it is now a ''civic nationalism'' of any player who grew up in Quebec and they point out when someone of our ethnicity is not from Quebec so the viewers won't mistakenly think ''that's one of us''.
