If I say, "I was born a man, but I have the mind of a woman." then it is NOT falsifiable, as there is no way to actually challenge that belief.

And those checks come with stipulations on the money not being there if the results don't show what they want.
And of course that huge supply exists because of Infinite Government Loans that let any idiot go to college, and Psyche is really interesting shit when you are 18 and learning about the world. We're still making a lot of progress in battery chemistry, for example - we've doubled the energy density in eight years - and we're learning more about quantum dynamics even if we don't have a proven use case yet. And while cold fusion is complete nonsense, if we do crack practical hot fusion that's a civilisation-defining advancement.
