LA Was Built to Burn

Which is why you do managed controlled burns at regular intervals.

The lesbian firefighters took offense to burning the bush to keep it under control.

Which is why you do managed controlled burns at regular intervals.

This is the only response necessary.

I thought we were supposed to be selfish, technocratic plunderers who had conquered nature for the sake of our own greed.

I thought we needed Science™ to save us from climate change.

I thought we were being held back by those icky, stupid conservatives who didn't believe in either.

But now all the Experts we're supposed to Trust are powerless to prevent a city from catching fire? Now it's pointless to expect action?

"Nothing we could do", those experts say, as they empty water reserves, employ diverse fire fighters who revel in their own incompetence, and let flammable material build up in forests. "Our cities were built to burn."

I guess we can drop all those climate change policies now. "Built to burn" can be the new ethos.

Because the ideology isn't pro environment, it's anti-human. There's a couple of gotcha questions to get them to admit it, but all of them do at one point or another.

It's the reason I'm at the place I am politically, in that I'm a Christian who believes in a fallen and human world, and I'm still a better humanist than these fucks.

California was requiring environmental impact studies to perform a controlled burn. I wonder if they required one to see what would happen if they didn't? I watched the news showing them cut fire roads, dump chemicals and massive amounts of water without a study. California has gone fully insane

Or build the city partially underground and with stone rather than with highly flammable materials.

Either control the environment or adapt to it.

If California wasn’t paying 200 lesbians $700,000 per year to “run” the LAFD - each house could have this :

Japan doesn’t have any diversity. But is somehow strong 🤷‍♀️

They said similarly when New Orleans was flooded by Hurricane Katrina and Houston was flooded by Harvey.

I know. I lost my house to Harvey.

Building a city below sea level right next to the ocean is asking for trouble. So they're correct about new Orleans.

the levee in New Orleans was supposed to make everything fine. frankly I'm highly suspicious of the way that it blew.

Why would you trust the government? They've proven many times over the years (at both a state and federal level) that they're largely not competent

And yet there were considerable works and plans in place to prevent exactly that from happening. Almost like people aren't completely retarded about where they lived and considered such a possibility.

Much like this, it was slowly chipped away through years of corruption, incompetence, and disregard. If everything was at correct preparation, most of the city would have been spared considerable damage.

Also New Orleans was 100% above sea level when it was built. A century+ of pumping water out caused the land to dry out and sink to below sea level over the course of the 1900s. And its still only about half of it that's below still.

Houston has a lot of buildable area too. Or did. They ran out and started building in flood planes. Downtown didn't flood.

NO was at least well aware of where they sit and what happens when it floods. Levee breaks aside.

"Blame whoever you want." Okay, I choose to lay full blame on the politicians and the people who elected them.

How about the "journalists" who look the other way at Commiefornia's mismanagement and give cover to the politicians destroying it?

This logic only works under the assumption that all humans, especially settlers, are completely retarded.

People knew these things could happen, smart men saw it happen in front of their eyes and found ways to curb, control or fully prevent it from happening again. While we can never fully predict nature, we can do a lot to keep the odds in our favor.

Only a politician could throw that away from money, popularity, or ideology.

We’ve drained swamps. Built levees and dams. Constructed dikes (see Netherlands). Clear cut forests for farmland. Built reservoirs and aqueducts.

Humans have, for many thousands of years, learned to control their environment and do it well.

Ceasing all forest management is akin to not watering your plants and being shocked when they wither and die.

This is a mix of extreme incompetence and deliberate evil.

Cities were built to starve too. Then they put in systems to counteract that. Shame someone dismantled the system built to counteract fires in LA. Wonder who could have done that? 🤔

"It's civilization's fault"

Will have to add that to my bingo card along with "Climate Change," "The pumps weren't running," "All the pumps combined caused low water pressure," and "It's Trump's fault."

I guess we should only build civilizations where there is never a wildfire, hurricane, tornado, sandstorm, or blizzard. So...nowhere ever.
