I lump Grr and Patrick Rothfuss together under the 'rich, lazy fucks' category.

Apparently, Rothfuss mentioned at a con a few years back that the current trilogy was supposed to be a prequel to the true story. He realized he would never write those other books, so he's been trying to cram the gist of that story into the last book.

I don't understand why these guys aren't under contract to shit something out every five years or so. It's pathetic.

I sometimes wonder if lefty creatives have undergone vaxx-induced brain damage. They seem incapable of producing content on the level of just five years ago. Permanent brain fog is a real possibility. You know these people were vaxx maxing.

Even if true, he's got a 13 year gap to explain.

The ghost writers quit and got their own contracts.

If the third book doesn't have him kill that smary twat from the university that kept trying to sabotage him then I have no idea why it's called "The Kingkiller Chronicles", because IIRC that twat was royalty and there's no other buildup that makes sense in the first two books. And calling them two books is generous since the second more or less just tells the same story of "MC fucks around and learns to use wind magic at the end".

Don't forget that he out-sexed the magical sex fairies and then out-sexed the all girl sex ninjas. He was the best at sex, better than anyone.

Well the whole setup seems prequel like from the beginning but he can't even manage to finish those

I don't understand why these guys aren't under contract to shit something out every five years or so.

Because they’re sell outs. They’re not creators at this point, just the partial owners of a brand/IP. We won’t get winds of winter until selling copies of a book has a higher ROI than hbo schlock, and we won’t get anything else out of Rothfuss until that Lin Manuel Miranda deal fall s apart

I read the books in 16 and I’m glad I didn’t start reading in the 90s when the first one came out. If I was his publisher I’d try to convince him to just let someone else finish. I will say that I’m very hesitant to start an unfinished book series now.

Sorta happened with Wheel of Time. Except Robert Jordan died before he could finish, he had a decent release schedule.

I know a lot of fans criticize how Sanderson finished the books, and a lot he didn't do, but he was given an impossible task so I am just happy we got an ending, even if it wasn't optimal. So I am the same now, I won't start an unfinished series.

I read the Wheel of Time books when covid lockdowns started. I agree he did a good job the difficult task he was given. I wish the adaptation had been done before the age of DEI.

I remember a young author of fantasy said that he noticed people are hesitant to read a series that isn’t finished and he partially blamed GRRM

I wish the adaptation had been done before the age of DEI.

Look for the Billy Zane version online, it's only the prologue from the first book though because they were trying to retain the rights by actually making something with it which was then broadcast at like 3 in the morning on some random day nobody was told about.

I enjoyed Sanderson's work in WOT. I love his kinetic writing style. I know people criticize his prose, but I like his everyman style

Started reading when A Feast for Crows came out (2005) on the recommendation of my friend's dad who started reading the series way back in 97/98. Back then I remember the ~5 year gap between Swords and Crows was a big deal to people. If only they knew.

Martin seems to have enough money and not enough motivation to finish the series. The guy should just throw a million at someone like Sanderson to ghost-write and finish the damn series. Not that I would care, I checked out of the books back in 2015 when it was obvious that Martin was more interested in making TV shows.

Sanderson ghost write, are you looking for a happy ending?

Yeah I didn't want to get to nerdy and say if Sanderson finished it he'd put ASOIAF in the Cosmere

Yea. I know it’s petty but I refuse to watch any of the spinoff shows. He acts like it’s odd that people want him to finish the series.

Same. I refused to watch any of GoT beyond the first season. Seeing how the ending of that series let everyone down was quite enjoyable though.

In things we all knew, part 38573783.

It got away from him, and he's riding out his fame. Too bad for those of us that enjoyed the books

and yet the man can do what he wants with his own time and his own series, and fundamentally doesn’t owe anyone anything

There is something about this sentence that is so pathetic and cucked that it viscerally evokes bile in me. Like I want to physically harm the author for typing it.

I mean it's true but it ignores the commitment the GRRM made to his readers. And like John Adams said,

There are only two creatures of value on the face of the earth: those with the commitment, and those who require the commitment of others

Right, if he doesn't owe anyone anything, then they no longer owe him any attention or fame in return.

The second part is always what the MSM and modern media producers forget when they say the first part.

"This movie isn't for you!"

Ok, my money isn't for you either.

/movie flops

"REEEEE, WHY DIDN'T YOU PAY TO SEE OUR MOVIE?!"

– Mpetey123 [S] 3 points 1 year ago +3 / -0

Yeah, if that's how he feels just retire the series and let everyone let go. He obviously enjoys the attention

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 6 ▼
– Adamrises 6 points 1 year ago +6 / -0

He enjoys the attention while having to do nothing, because HBO continues to make it for him while he puts in "consulting" level effort for them to pay him heavily.

It's because this sentence, while true on its own, usually comes with the implication "still give them money and you're not allowed to criticise".

Lesson: Do not read unfinished series by fat retards.

Yeah but if you don't buy the books the publisher won't continue the series.

permalink parent save report block reply

Good point, but it's a bad bet. Because it might be discontinued if you don't buy it, if you do and others don't, or if there are enough purchases but the writer is a fat retard who will die of his obesity.
