Both Russia and Ukraine know they have the time limit of Jan 20th 2025 to do any changes in this war.
Given the current capabilities, that isn't enough time unless they have all the weapons already set up to use. And even then with Trump coming in, the last thing they want to do is do something that forces Trump's hand when he takes office like using the weapons against something that has radioactive material.
It might be that they're trying to get everything through so that Trump either reverses them and is called a Russian asset, or has to go along with the escalation.
To be honest, I'm not very hopeful given Trump's record in the previous admin & his appointments of the likes of Rubio. Then again, maybe he learned that he escalated by sending lethal arms to Ukraine and they still called him a Russian asset. You cannot appease these people.

My guess is that it was something they were going to do anyway after the election, regardless of whether they won or lost.
