Reminds me of something I heard from a Japanese artist who did some work in Hollywood. They talked about how in Japan things were largely left up to the artist to create their own works, with some guidance, but when he worked with Hollywood the execs would constantly be asking for this or that minor detail to be changed for their own reasons.
That shows a difference between Japanese and American industry, at least the media industry. Japanese industry is high trust and, in general, competent. American media industry is low trust despite, or because of, everybody knowing everybody else. It's basically just a grift with a lot of control freaks and busy bodies.

Ff7r is fun though. I’ve beaten and enjoyed 2, 3, 4, 5 (fan sub), and 6 on snes. Then I haven’t liked a final fantasy game since FF15, then 7R. 16 is dogshit with way too much gay.

This has to suck hard working for a company with a two tier management. One tier is supposed to be your equal but they are paid more, has the ear of the other management, and openly despise your existence (wokies.) I've been moving off of all digital services for this reason. I quit Spotify and raid music stores for old CDs. I rarely watch movies but when I do I find DVDs and rip them to my hard drive. Not only will this maintain the integrity of the thing I chose to spend hard earned money to purchase, those items will become valuable in their own right as relics of the unfucked past.
It's getting harder to do this as more and more media is just straight up no longer offering a physical means of acquisition. I picked up a great little indie title a few months back and love it to death, but the only place I can seem to get it is on Steam. There's no physical CD or installation executable for purchase. This is going to become more and more common of a dilemma.

This is where piracy and modding shines on PC. Once it's out, you will be able to find an old copy of game at some point and there are always people who make mods for such things. Taking assets from old files and inject them into the latest version of a game is easy.
