In case you're wondering how bad it is, Polygon likes it: https://archive.is/VJ6pw
There is zero chance a Borderlands movie will be good. Doesn't matter who's in it or who makes it.
Borderlands is an arcade shooter with the barest plot possible, that doesn't translate to a movie.
That could have been fine with decent writers in another time, I think.
I too remember enjoying the Doom movie.
Eli Roth directing. Jack Black as Claptrap. Kevin Hart is in it. Zero chance it's good.
Why not just get the original VA for claptrap? He is literally a robot so looks arent a problem.
BL3 is one of the shiniest examples of "missed opportunities: the plot", i think game is unplayable unless you actively ignore its "plot"
and that ending, dear lord
One of my friends used to work at Gearbox and I remember years ago when he discussed the potential plot some of the guys in the office had mapped out for what Borderlands 3 could look like back when it wasn't even on the roadmap yet, and it sounded phenomenal. Then BL3 came out and...well we all saw what happened. Just a fucking dumpster fire to follow up two really solid games. What a gut punch.
"hmm yes i'll give control of Sanctuary to an obnoxious teenage girl that got my best friend killed, blamed everybody but herself for it, magically inherited her siren powers and is a clueless child. Tannis? Moxxy? Ellie? who are these people, Ava would totally do better than them"
fucking Tiny Tina would've been a better choice, and she's crazier than most psychos
Didn't they arbitrarily put some BL3 stuff into BL2 or something? I just st remember some tech CEO looking wanker whining about some bullshit or other
I wish. The borderlands games (after 1) have extensive, obnoxious, intrusive plots that are gay, woke, and stupid. I would love a copy-paste series without all of the awful characters, dialogue, and stories.
The plot may be intrusive, but it's still about as deep as a puddle.
I question why there should be a Borderlands movie. Let Hollywood die already. Let Borderlands die too, the poor thing is suffering.
Because the things that Hollywood is obsessed with making work, like the quirky quips and the girlbosses, are already established things in Borderlands. Its a match made in executive producer heaven.
And for some reason, Randy Pitchford is absurdly well connected and able to get things pushed through despite his track record.
They've raped their own assets (older movies and shows). They've raped comic book stories. They are now working in video games.
Like Halo where the writers admit they know fuck all about the lore nor even tried to catch up (because the MESSAGE is the main driver while the actual lore of the franchise is just the vehicle).
Or the recent Sopranos movie that got a lot of its own lore wrong but you can tell the main purpose was to romanticize the race riots of the 60s.
Those 2 black guys over there finally getting a spin off. Rofl.
The need to adapt videogames into movies is driven by the belief that videogames are not "legitimate". You have to process a videogame into a format the average normie can understand.
This is also why videogames that are the most like movies often get praised the most for being "art" (see: The Last of Us). They've taken the videogame, cut it up into little pieces for you and practically chew it for you to ensure it's the easiest thing to digest.
I suspect after The Last of Us's show success, which itself got heaps of praise for being such a good adaptation when it is arguably one of the easiest things to do, more studios have been prowling around searching for videogame IPs to adapt. Especially with the superhero genre cooling off. Try to make videogame adaptations the hit new thing instead of comic books. On the animation side of things, the Super Mario Bros. movie has definitely got people to line up more animated videogame movies.
Wait ... it's real? I thought it was from a parody account on youtube.
Mediocre game series looks to be getting a cringe worthy movie. Tale as old as... well the last few years.
We're going to get blamed when it crashes and burns, right?
Racist misogynist!
I've seen better cosplay costumes and makeup from hobbyists than what their team of "professionals" created.
borderlands sucked shit and the writing was even worse
Not forgetting Roland; being played by the tiny Kevin hart...
Who hazard a bet will be the punching bag for all the jokes.
Whoever did the casting for this is absolutely insane
Probably the same that did the Netflix Avatar casting.
That Azula, woof.
Its like they went out of their way to make it awful.
Claptrap VA fucked over, again. Damn.
Casting is difficult when there's exactly one hot actress with big boobs under 30 left in all of Hollywood.
If you speed up the video to 2x the speed, you'll get a normal person talking.
The casting of a fossil as Tannis, an archaeologist, is likely the closest it'll get to getting a laugh out of me.
The Tiny Tina casting is fine, but I have no clue what they were thinking with the rest of the cast.
Why cant they.. you know make movies that is the same style as the source?? In this case, using CGI for entire movie. Like a movie of just cutscenes... after all, they try to make games into artsy cutscene games anyways.
Kate Blanchett 👃 is so big in that last photo , also looks like a tranny
