Even from the anti-theist perspective, I get why he did it. Not because he believes that this is genuine belief; but because he believes this is a mockery of his religion. And it is.
Even if you're a non-believer, the symbol is literally, intentionally representing evil itself. Every lie, every vice, every crime, every debauchery. Do you really want that being enshrined in a government building?
Enshrining a fucking Swastika would be literally a million times less evil than using Satan himself.
The problem is that it's not actually the symbol of evil, but the symbol of self-interest, at least from the genuine Satanist perspective.
But again, Satanism is a condemnation of Christianity, not an affirmative religion. A wiccan would actually make more sense.

I don't know if Satan exists (I lean towards no) but I absolutely do think that people are better off living as if he does.
And if the people who put the statue up are sincere Satanists, then I'm actually in favor of them and their idols getting sincere treatment from sincere Christians.
