Thai Man Gets 50 Years in Prison for Making Fun of the King on Social Media
A 30-year-old Thai man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after making fun of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who is protected by Thailand's lèse-majesté law, which protects the royal family and friends from criticism and is considered one of the strictest...
I was looking up Thai politics because of this. .....i was like oh cool a strong monarchy . Oh cool , a politically involved military that is against annoying civil rights activists ......and then i found out that the Thai parliament is looking in to pushing same sex marriage. You'd think they'd hold up a bit more stronger than this but i guess not. https://archive.is/akRRD
Thailand was made famous for pedophile sex tourism since the 60s. Nothing really based about the place.
They have cool martial arts.
I mean, of course they need to make that a thing, they have a whole underclass of male prostitutes pretending to be women.
Thai lady boys aren't just a meme, all stereotypes are based in a kernel of truth. Look into (or don't) Bangkok's Red Light District to see what I mean.
One of the biggest problems with monarchy, and really any strong small ruler base, throughout all of history is that its under the whims and emotions of that small/singular ruler.
So for everytime a monarch might do something based, they might also do something horrifically bad, and that's just how it works. All outside influences and cancer ever needs to do is figure out how to manipulate one guy.
thailand isnt an absolute monarchy its still technically a constitutional monarchy, the king technically isnt the decision maker. but its illegal to criticize the king and he's the one that approves or disapproves the laws.
USUALLY a monarchy has more incentive to do the right thing (than random politicians who just want to line up their pockets and then just leave once their term is over), , because the king has to think about their descendants and would want to leave the kingdom intact for their descendants to inherit and they can make better long term plans as the king compared to a random politician that's only in office for the short term, (and who may make decisions just for public approval, for the short term even if in the long term its a bad decision). A king is also more able to quickly dispose of bad or bad foreign elements in the country without having to go through the barriers of democracy.
but of course its not guaranteed
The Left: Wow, how backwards! You should have the right to criticize anyone!
Also the Left: If you don't like the trannies in government, you're racist and should lose your job, house, bank account, ability to buy food...
Yep...I really don't have to add anything other than leftists WISH the could apply these laws to themselves.
Only reason they can't is just because they don't have the strength to do it. The UK police are TRYING to do it in protecting criticism of their precious minorities on social media and well let's say they now have less authority than stray dogs and rather than not piss on them, people would pour accellerant on them if they were on fire.
BLM never wanted to abolish the police, they wanted to be the police.
Communists never wanted to abolish huckstering, they wanted to be the hucksters.
It never changes.
"No bad tactics, only bad targets"
But pimping your kids because "poverty" is A-OK.
Is a puzzlement.
Good. If I was King, I would do the same thing. You can't tolerate any corruption to what is good in a society.
Have you seen this thai King
Talk about FAFO. Holy shit, 50 years!

Why?
Why not?
Because the king has made himself an object of mockery. He's done some admirable things too, but you should look down on a man who degrades his wife and the mother of his son for his dog's birthday party.
You have a point, and I'm glad we live in countries where we can discuss this, but for a Thai subject, looking down on him is a far cry from openly mocking him. If the monarch is corrupt, it's the job of other elites to depose him. It's not a commoners place to demean the royal family and try to destabilize the kingdom.
On a serious note, when I see pictures of this king, I can't help but think physiognomy is real.
