Vivek ran the campaign DeSantis should have run: he raised his national profile and ingratiated himself to Trump voters while bringing up important issues to the forefront. He drove the conversation. He reaped all the secondary benefits. This is all because he accepted that there was no way to beat Trump. It may be true that, as some people reported, he was hoping Trump would have to drop out due to legal troubles and he'd scoop up MAGA voters - who knows.

DeSantis never accepted Trump as the inevitable nominee, took a shot at the king, and missed. Now he's saddled with the image of platform lifts in his boots.

People actually LIKE Trump as a person and Trump shows that he also likes THEM. This is truly an invaluable quality in politics. You can't say the same about any other candidate in the 21st century, including all other current competitors.

DeSantis needed to lean into that "Trump but competent" narrative that started congealing around him in the early days. Campaign with a necklace of finger bones or something like that and tell a little Trump-esque story about it.

Every time some bureaucrat tells me something is "impossible", this here necklace gets a little bigger; and he always come around to my way of thinking. Except now he only types 90% as fast as he used to, so he's got to learn to be that much more efficient; because that's no excuse for not getting the job done on time. And he knows if he doesn't get it done on time, this little necklace is going to get a little bit bigger; and he's going to have to work even harder to keep up. So very rarely do they fail to deliver after making that initial mistake.

But some combination of his donors not letting him do this and him listening to the stupidest campaign managers on the planet kept him from adopting this obvious strategy

This is why I could never get behind Desantis - while competent and racking up scalps as a governor, his shift to campaigning for President made it clear he was being managed to be 'nicer, kinder'.

People don't want 'nice' or 'kind'. People want their fucking scalps, and they'll vote for who they think will get them.

It's funny, other critics call him 'abrasive'.

you should look into his primary hatchetwoman and his top two backers. they aren't nice and kind people and they have very, very bad plans for the USA.

I thought he was always a Trump supporter, it confused me that he ran. But, he damn sure got a whole lot said that needed to be said.

Exactly. I liked a lot of what he said but I found it odd he praise Trump so much because the logical question would be then why are you running against him. I hope he does something in the future or writes books.

I think his game plan was always to be a VP pick. He pretty much came out of nowhere and got enough support that leaves him a contender.

A lot of people that turned away from Trump went and supported him, so he can leverage that for a VP run.

I was really mad when he decided to run, but if he hadn't run he wouldn't have been able to reach so many people. Desanctimonious running is the back stabber. Vivek seems to be like Kari Lake. He's laser focused on America first long term.

I thought it was pretty obvious that he was auditioning to be Trump's VP.

I personally am not as against him as others here. I think Trump is training Jr. If Trump gets Vivek on his team Jr will get trained faster. Then Vivek, and Jr can keep it going.

I think if there were approval voting instead of votes for a single candidate, it would have been Trump, Vivek, DeSantis, and then Bird Brain.

Vivek was vying for the same voters as Trump. DeSantis and Hailey were both fighting for establishment votes. There are more MAGA voters than there are swamp votes.

It'll be too bad to see him out of the race. Genuine or not, he was the only non-Trump candidate that I think had a clue how to talk to people outside of the mainstream media bubble or to effectively pierce mainstream media narratives.

He's obviously very smart. Whether genuine or not, he has trained himself on the Trump model in rhetoric and almost out Trumps Trump. This is why so many people think he'd make a great press secretary, though I think he'd be wasted in that role.

Bring him in as a hatchet man. Let him go to work axing entire federal agencies.

Just don't let him anywhere near whichever agency is responsible for issuing H1Bs

I chuckled. But in my dreams, that one gets axed too.
