Netflix anime is absolutely garbage, definitely not just you. Either over cgi-d, animated at like 9 fps, or just an actual PowerPoint presentation that’s occasionally punctuated by a 15fps fight scene. Normie females won’t even argue against it if they actually see the juxtaposition between a Netflix anime and a regular one. It’s just the dudes and sockpuppets on twitter that'll pretend it’s not an issue because castlevania has diversity now.
Does it need it? I feel like it needs an anime remake even less than a live action. If they do the art unique, like Arcane, maybe it'll be fun just for novelty. However, if it's like the usual Netflix anime where it's obvious 3D models, poor animation and maybe 2-3 action scenes in the season, I'll pass.
I would imagine they also go full activist here, unless Oda has similar oversight like he did with the live action, so he can veto the bullshit changes.
aspiring pirate king Monkey D. Luffy and his diverse crew. Unlike the existing “One Piece” anime series produced by Toei Animation since 1999, this remake seeks to offer a unique viewing experience while reimagining
I see danger language in there. I bolded it.
It's starting in the East Blue as well. Since the live action is already covering that. Why not jump to an arc that you can finish in full? Like do Saobody through to the end of Marineford. It's fast-paced and tight structured; It would be fan favorite timeline, and different.
The live action did change a lot, but thankfully didn't 'break' anything for me. It dropped a lot of side characters, spent a bit more time than we needed on chick shit, and made the East Blue villains less threatening overall. A lot of my praise for it comes from the fact that it didn't seem embarrassed of itself like so many live action debacles do. Like, they saw it was goofy, but just jumped in with enthusiasm, so I had to respect that.
I think the actor/writer strike helped them out a lot as well. Otherwise the marketing leading up to launch would have been pandering non-stop about Koby's actor being trans, or gay/black whoever swaps. Since I watched it without having all of that annoying baggage, I kept a more open mind. Since the show didn't beat me over the head with identity, and one thing Oda did actually block was crew/character romance, so I think that helped quite a bit.
The anime is mandated to only cover ONE manga chapter per episode.
On one hand, this prevents anime-only filler, which is the trap Naruto and Shippuden (especially the latter) fell into.
On the other hand, this gives the anime some serious pacing issues, which are a major reason I could never get into it. A manga chapter that takes 8-10 minutes to read, tops, is stretched out across at least 22 minutes.
Not that it'll matter here. It's Netflix. It WILL be woke.
And the thing people forget is: One Piece started in 1999, right after Oda finished the first arc(the east blue arc). Pacing issues have ALWAYS been a thing. While I am a bit more wary around netflix, especially after what they did with Jojo(just dump it all instantly)...I'm cautiously optimistic. People seem to forget how the series had fillers for ages, now they just stall but the fillers were still intrusive. I've always said I want a reanimation of One Piece with current techniques, with better pacing and seasonal like MHA or Jujutsu Kaisen. So we've gotta wait and see, I'd hazard to guess it'll be at least better than the anime we currently have. If it'll be great we gotta wait for.
eventually Dragonball Kai was released, which was Dragonball Z but remade to trim the fat, remove filler, and improve the pacing.
While also removing most of the fun and interesting parts too. For every "multiple episodes of powering up and talking" it removed, it also got rid of entire filler episodes and arcs that were made entirely to make non-main characters not be completely forgotten. From Garlic Jr., to the illusion Saiyans (really everything Yamcha, Tien and the others do after Nappa in Z), to even the driver's ed episode. Some of which create actual plot holes because they ended up as being referenced and built into the anime's story, such as cutting Gohan becoming an ape using Goku's original pod.
Its entirely made for people who want to zoom through the series only hitting the key points, and ends up actually feeling rushed because of it. A pure sidegrade instead of a supplanting superior product as people often treat it.
I considered throwing in "also the Japanese score is fucking terrible, Faulconer is much better" but I've had people react like I just shot them for saying it.
Also agree, Pikkon was really good and easily should have been "made canon" during one of Super's many tournament arcs.
Have you seen the forum post of that person who rescored Kai with the Faulconer score? Unfortunately you have to remux the video yourself for the sake of copyright, but they posted the files up on Kanzenshuu. Kai with the Faulconer score is an experience, but I prefer the original version of DBZ for a lot of moments, such as Goku going SSJ3 for the first time or him defeating Kid Buu.
I think I only really like the Kai score for the Frieza saga stuff, but that’s just because that era of Kai had some really good music.
I don't like any of the Japanese score though, its too loud and bombastic. Like the original SSJ transformation is almost overpowering in Japan, while Bruce let the actors carry it for themselves with his more subdued sounds.
To all One Piece fans: do you guys seriously need this? Did you even need the FIRST anime series? Does seeing it in motion really improve the story THAT much. Don't you think it's utterly ridicuous for a show to have OVER 1000 episodes and show no sign of stopping? Do you really need to see that old material reanimated again in the hope that they "get it right" this time? Is it really THAT much of a hassle to just read or reread the original source material to experience the story all over again?
as a fan, we don't need this, but I don't mind having an anime for OP even if it's over 1000 episodes.
As for animating old material, I hope it's just a cosmetic facelift on the older episodes, which detective conan has done (another 1000 episode anime).
Will they put a chick in it and make it gay,?
Is it just me or has all the Netflix “original anime” just been super jarring and over cgi-ed every time?

Netflix CGI is very offputting to me, yeah.
I quite enjoyed the Onimusha one, but only because I loved those games. As an anime, it's about average.
Ehhh I also loved the games and that shitty cgi was again just terrible. The storyline was pretty solid though.
And lame!!@!

Buggy was leagues more threatening in LA than in the original, shame Don Krieg got cut though
They gonna remove all the tranny jokes and all fan service.
Write. Something. New. You incredible hacks.
Jesus.
That’s a very extensive Anime right? The manga is one that I’ll have to wait until retirement to read. Why do another anime?

Usually, for a battle manga it would be 2.5 chapters per episode ish. the fan project one pace made a great comparison. It is absolutely ridiculous how long they stretch out one attack.
Oh my God, that's atrocious. Glad to see data back up my gut.

The thing is I prefer the Naruto approach, because if an episode is filler I can just skip it but i cant skip an episode if they stretch it out.
Every DBZ episode was half of the previous episode and half of the next episode.

Pikkon by himself is worth watching the original DBZ. Plus the Faulconer score is divine.
I considered throwing in "also the Japanese score is fucking terrible, Faulconer is much better" but I've had people react like I just shot them for saying it.

I haven't but I'm sure I'd like that a lot more.

Long as it's the creator having another go over on how it wants it done then it's fine.
That's exactly why One Piece creator has been so hands on. He saw that train wreck
But why would I want that?
