Isn't the magical negro trope viewed in a negative way? I've heard the term "black girl magic" being thrown around for a while now but wouldn't it fall under magical negro?
I know black girl magic is a tumblr thing and I am not expecting consistency from that crowd but how was this allowed to become a thing? Do I misunderstand the magical negro trope?
Also, along with "slay queen" how long until we get an unironic "DAS RITE" Has that already happened? I haven't seen a Marvel movie in a long time.
If you view yourself and your tribe as an oppressed victim, you can never be a hypocrite. Anything you do is fighting the systemic shmatriarcgyny hate care affirming shabblemubbo. So the magical negro trope is fair game, and not at all problematic like it was... 7 years ago. But, if an oppressor makes a film with that trope, then it is bad again.
I remember Spike Lee getting mad about Bagger Vance and Green Mile due to the “magic negro” trope. I’ll take that over jive talking ignorant fool negro in a movie any day
They put "we wuz kings" unironically in a movie. A black said it struck by emotion in the museum exposition room of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Because of course they would claim "Egyptians wuz black".
Yes, it is viewed negatively because it is another form of "Orientalism" in art, whereby people (who are otherwise normal people), are actually magical beings because they are "exotic".
White, upper-middle class, default lefty types like that from Martha's Vineyard are actually just as racist as your average stormfag; they just happen to have a sense of maternalism towards what they consider to be inferior races. Those also happen to be precisely who are making these films (or the children of those people)
That has quickly become one of my most hated phrases. I know Monica Rambeau led the Avengers in some of the comics I have from the 80s. I doubt this is the same character. The mannish Capt Marvel and Ms Marvel had comics that bombed. So of course it makes sense to give them movies. All the storylines they passed up and great characters just to use the all new all different garbage
How long before “slay queen” becomes a one liner in a Marvel movie?
Don't they already have "Triggered" and "Snowflake" as actual characters from, like, 2017?
Snowflake and Safespace were their names, I believe…
But otherwise yes…

Here's leftism:

The same black girl magic that yells at you not to tell her how to raise her kids while they destroy the store display.
The line is said by Samuel L Jackson, btw.
It's sounds so much better just thinking about it in his voice.
They jumped the shark a long time ago, it's just bad enough normies notice now
I'm pretty sure normies checked out once Avengers Endgame ended.
Nah, there's still a ton of normies watching the garbage. I have to hear about it at work.
In the wrong context that dialog is pretty dire.
...
And funny.
"Black girl magic" : The ability to still get welfare checks and keep a stable relationship.
So, light hearted comedy dialog in our.... In our movie that took 3 years trying to figure out what it was going to be.
Honestly, what was this movie supposed to be?
A funereal dirge.
