Disclaimer: I didn't pay for Paramount + to watch this special. I watched it on a website. Just wanted to clarify that I didnt give another shitty streaming service my money lol
I thought it was okay, but I knew they were gonna pull the "muh both sides" shit. The sub plot with randy was kinda funny too. Still isnt as funny as older south park though, and a user said here in another thread that South Park isnt as anti establishment and contrarian as it used to be, and he's right. South Park has so much stuff to make fun of in this clown world, but I feel like they are holding back a bit. Is it just me?
Everything they made fun of is about 3 years at minimum too late to be considered even slightly edgy, topical, or barely relevant.
The fact that they are doing so now, when the pendulum has swung slightly out of favor of the things they are mocking, makes it even worse than if they had said nothing at all. Because now they are openly showing themselves to be cowardly and trendchasers, instead of just out of touch and uncaring.
Its entirely designed to make you think they are still neutralish making fun of everyone like they used to, which will almost certainly work on normies who were starting to notice too hard. And its outright pathetic to see.
Given the reaction of the grift-o-sphere on Youtube, you'd think they had hit a home run. They were even praising the episode before it was even released.
Well… the grift-o-sphere is people who will continue to consooom as long as it’s at least ok done propaganda or for their audience… for those whose paycheck is reliant on a thing, don’t expect them to go Blackpill out there…
The Grift Creators are stuck in permanent "Notice me daddysenpai" mode and always have been. So literally any recognition from the industry they can get, even this tiny crumb, is treated like their entire life is being immortalized as correct.
Its always been an issue. Its why KIA1, despite claiming "no leaders," would prop up literally any named person who'd agree with them into the stratosphere. Its how such a group treats Ethan Ralph, Milo, and Tranny Narwhal all as its personal ecelebs.
Exactly what I was thinking. I haven’t seen the full episode yet but mocking the diversity obsession would’ve been much more effect a few years ago
It was noticeable that South Park starting self censoring after the Mohammad debacle, and it went into full overdrive when they started bringing in leftists like Bill Hader. You can literally watch the intelligent humor vouched in fart jokes decline to just fart jokes and really sub par social critiques.
After Trump won (or maybe it was more after he lost) they went not full TDS but definitely worse
You can tell they were writing with the anticipation that Trump would lose 2016. Made him over the top and crazy while Hillary was portrayed as relatively sane and normal. Gone were the days of giant douche vs turd sandwich. They clearly were taking a side (or had their marching orders from their Overlords).
Was hilarious how they had to write around that when Trump won. They worked hard to suppress their TDS but clearly it was there
AFAIK it was also the first time they didn't make an episode for either side winning because they were so sure he would lose. That's why the episode was delayed.
I stopped watching them after they cucked out.
They were never really our guys. Let's not forget their pro gay episode with George Clooney as a dog and the episode with a masculine drill sergeant boy scout leader being a pedophile while the super flamboyant boy scout leader was totally safe to leave ones kids with.
They have always been libertarians, we're just so used to clown world moving so far left, we're desperate to be friendly to people who showed a lick of common sense and somewhat critical of the left, like the YouTube skeptics boom pre trump presidency, or cheering for "conservative" porn stars and trannies at TheDonald.
Biden is the most farcical president there's ever been. The election was obviously rigged, with the extremely flawed system of "mail-in votes" that nearly all had signatures that didn't match and often also addresses that didn't exist, and all of those votes randomly showing up after 3 am and being counted when the polling stations were "closed", coming out of boxes and bags of votes that were hidden underneath tables or being taken in with coolers, with the votes being 98%+ for Biden. His administration's policies are also the worst we've ever seen, worsening every problem there is, causing incredibly rampant inflation from worsening the covid measures and impeding oil production so much that the US is no longer an oil exporter but rather an importer, increasing the price of transportation and making everything more expensive from the downstream effect of costs. Biden shat his pants at the Vatican, can't form fully coherent sentences without rambling unintelligibly when he's not doped up and following a prompter, and can't stop tripping when going up stairs, being on a bike or when shuffling his feet on a floor with a few wires.
There is so much content that could be parodied right there, and yet I don't recall them making a single joke about him. The producers of South Park are afraid of being controversial and of offending their Hollywood buddies. They are only making "safe" jokes, that often fall completely flat because of how little they apply to reality, how they mischaracterize arguments, and how lightly they criticize abhorrent behaviour.
I've been disappointed with them since season 19, when they introduced PC Principal. If there was ever a joke that missed the mark and that's been going on for way too long, it's that character right there.
With nothing bad happened to pc principal it kind of showed their attitude "well yeah it kinda sucks, but that's the reality we're living in now, get use to it"
I stopped finding South Park funny around 2010 when they started to run out of ideas for smarter more evergreen episodes and instead just relied heavily on referencing whatever the current pop culture or news event is.
I gave them another chance during the height of the SJW boom in 2014 when people were hyping their new episode titled "The Cissy" which was supposed to take the piss out of troons and SJWs, only for it to have some confusing non sequitur message at the end which essentially just affirmed the narrative.
Season 18 still had a few great episodes, like "Freemium Isn't Free", but yeah, I agree that that's when it really seemed to start to go downhill in quality.
I think the last time I remember laughing at an episode was the one with the loud motorcycle gang terrorizing the town
Probably won't watch it, but I do want to make a comment on the "both sides" trend in lefty/centrist humor.
95 percent of the time I hear that a piece or media or a comedian makes fun of both sides, its always them taking shots at the most fringe and easiest targets on the left, and then just standard right wing positions. I assume because they believe the standard left wing positions.
They think they're enlightend centrists, but they are just leftists lite
Haven't watched the special yet, but female Kenny is hot
She has nice knockers!
If you're going to spoiler tag it, care to tell us what it was about?
Just watched it- SPOILER:
Kathleen Kennedy used "the Panderstone" to make all the woke remakes & everything based on multiverses. This caused a rip in the multiverse so another universe's KK who is basically Cartman replaces her and is the one making post-Indiana Jones Disney so awful as her solution for everything is "put a chick in it and maker her gay and lame".
In the end our universe's KK says just wanted to fight racism & she pandered so hard because of all the hate mail calling her a cunt (all written by Cartman) and Cartman apologies and said they're both to blame and mocking woke stuff is as unoriginal as making woke stuff.
This is of course nonsensical because there has to be one that came first, and clearly people couldn't complain about woke stuff without the stuff being make woke in the 1st place. This is the "muh both sides" shit OP was talking about, and I completely agree.
Agreed. Pretty clear they went on the offensive with Ghostbusters 2016. They purposely did that to piss off real fans.
I love the older stuff and they missed a golden opportunity to mock the media’s coverage of the Floyd protests or the difference in Jan 6 coverage vs summer of love
At this point, South Park catching on is like a teenager's parents picking up the new street slang at the end of its cycle. It's just a flag that the thing is worn out its welcome and is starting to become cringey and tired.
At best this may put some woke companies on notice that this crap is wearing thin and people
are no longerwere never interested. The main plot was line was completely dull and not funny at all. Another bait amd switch "anti woke" show.
The real satire and only bearable storyline is the Randy sub plot about useless college graduates.
