Washington Free Beacon: https://archive.ph/M4Xtl
Rep. Dean Phillips (D., Minn.) told House colleagues that he plans to run for the Democratic presidential nomination, two sources told Politico. A third source who spoke to Phillips told Politico he seemed less resolved, replying, "We’ll see" when asked whether he'll run.
Of course, the first question that comes to mind is "Who?"
In short, he's a very generic "moderate" democrat who, as far as his voting record indicates, goes along with the party position nearly all the time.
One other thing he has going for him is some inherited wealth. He's not Mike Bloomberg rich, but he has one of the highest net worth values in congress. The inheritance comes from a previously big distillery business
In my opinion, he might make for a decent Biden copy, without the family/corruption controversy.
What may be interesting to watch for is if the floodgates open with more democrats wanting to fill in as the puppet figurehead of the country.
It's 100% Newsom decided by the Pelosi wing of Democrats. He's traveling to both Israel and China.
So much for "without the family/corruption controversy".
what the fuck is a governor doing leaving the country
Because he's running for president and needs the blessings of China and Israel.

Yeah I've seen people suggesting Newsom if Biden proves too incompetent or too dead by the election.
A couple of the bloggers I read have been showing detailed pics of current-day "Biden" versus 2019 Biden versus Obama-era Biden and have posited that either Biden has had a massive stroke and is a vegetable (or dead), or that he's so demented now that his double has to be the default option. And as far as the double goes, Israel trip Biden only kinda-sorta looked like 2020 Biden. It's like the handlers have set a bottle of Dr. Thunder on the table and said with a smirk "watcha talkin' 'bout, that's Dr. Peppa!"
Links?
Not doubting, just interested.
Here is a blog link, and here is Vice trying to fact check it.
TL;DR of both: either body doubles or a lot of very bad plastic surgery done in 2019-2020, with no evidence of scarring.
yeah I wanna see those too
Just the difference between 90s biden and today is stark. But having 3 years progression side by side would be useful.
I always thought Newsom might be the heir apparent because superficially he has good looks. He looks like a rich villain from an 80s movie that's dumping toxic waste in vacant lots.
More importantly he's Pelosi's nephew.
Dear God you're right. That's exactly how he looks.
California governors don't sell well nationally lately. I think his looks help him be governor of California. I don't think they will help him enough nationally for him to make a serious run. I believe he would do it to up his profile, though. A lot of people gain more by losing a run for president than whatever they'd otherwise be doing.
There's one problem that the Dems may face with this: lack of recognition.
It's one of the problems Desantis faced as he wasn't as recognised nationally compared to his state. Biden was known already as VP to Obama, Bernie from his previous run and Trump is Trump, he got buildings everywhere with his name in big gold letters.
You can't go from unknown to president, if people's first response is 'who?' and it's less than a year before the actual election, you're in trouble.
True but he had 3 things going for him:
Was black
Was charismatic
Wasn't Hillary Clinton
That last one was a really big deal
And that's partly why I'm curious if this move will open the door for more famous "moderates" to throw their hats in.
It's also kind of a strange situation since there may not be so much of policy differences to debate between Biden and Phillips, but just capacity to execute.
A bit risky right now, a lot of the really famous ones they could've counted on are either too tainted nowadays or too smart to get involved at an executive level considering Trump was at their level and they saw what happened to him.
That leaves the mid tier of your Megan Markle, actors, artists etc. They don't stand a chance in hell even after cheating. Because in the debates Trump would annihilate them or they would be starved of attention if Trump is too busy fighting court cases.
I'm not saying 'Trump is 100% going to win' but every decision the Dems have taken this year has been increasing his lead.
You really think there will be debates?
At this point up in the air. The 'use court orders to gag him so he can't rally support' is not only not working, it's having the opposite effect.
There were a few times during debates he slipped up that they might feel it's better to have them to get some 'gotcha' moments to broadcast on repeat (especially if it's not against Biden). They seem desperate enough that it shouldn't be discounted.
Doesn't matter if nobody knows who he is, just enough ballots will show up at polling stations late at night, police will force all republican counters out at midnight and the dems will go manufacturing enough votes to make sure they win. Republicans suck lmao and will continue to do so until someone grabs a rifle and says fuck off.
Probably intentional. Both parties always put up slate of contenders nobody has ever heard of to make Americans think there is a legitimate democratic process. The important signal here is that Dems aren't fully in support of their incumbent, or they want us to believe that.
I hear that people line up to run for president knowing they'll lose because they want some easy cash and "I ran for president" on their resumes.
Anyone else think Michelle Obama would win easily if she entered the race?
The media would prop her up obv. Idiot democrats would talk about the good old days when Obama saved the economy from disaster (lol, I know). Republicans and conservative media would call the notion preposterous. They'd say she's not qualified, inexperienced, etc. But would that matter? How many moderates would actually care about that when they're being bombarded with propaganda telling them she's the moderate, sane choice?
She'd definitely get more legitimate votes than Biden.
I’ve been dreading a Michelle Obama run for a couple cycles now. She’s the exact kind of candidate that clueless western women would go nuts over.
Assuming voting even matters anymore (or ever did).
I never thought much about it until my Dad asked me what I thought about her running. This was back in 2020 maybe six months before the election.
My Dad has always been liberal and he swallowed the whole "Trump is an evil racist" lie hook, line and sinker. Although he has given Trump credit for his lack of new wars and his overall foreign policy approach. And back when I was a kid, he owned a number of firearms because he always thought WW3 wasn't far off and he wanted to be prepared. So he isn't quite as far left as some.
But my point is that hearing him discuss Michelle Obama as a viable candidate made me realize it isn't just the fringe left who views her as a serious option, and ever since then I've been dreading the idea just like you.
Clueless? They know exactly what they are doing, and are given instructions.
Looks like he's an empty headed Gavin Newsom clone without all the making California an eighth circle of hell baggage.
Pass.
He'll only be a good candidate if he is better at falling up stairs than Biden is.
With a nose like that he could sniff twice as many children as Biden in half the time!
What a weird lineup. Also, must import some of is, as you can't exactly make Canadian whisky in Minnesota.
