Men are actually more likely to be victims of violent crime than women, it's just that we care about women hugely more than men, and women are more likely to live in fear, whether that fear is justified or not.
All of this is about 'feeling' safe rather than statistically being safe. I'm also sure that women who constantly listen to crime podcasts and read crime fiction novels will also feel more unsafe than they actually are.
