This is my guess as well. It's the easiest, most sensical solution for what's actually happening. Like you said, if it was the CEO or somebody, they just wouldn't show the movie at all.
The CEO knows it is happening, he probably supports it via internal memo.
There's a reason he isn't giving the standard "We appreciate the information and we are looking into it." Instead he is going on the attack.
I seriously doubt the low level employees would get away with it unless they had approval from above. This reeks of a conspiracy and the statement from the CEO actually goes a long way to confirming it.
I can only barely remember the last time I went to the theaters, but I don't recall seeing any staff that didn't have danger hair and wasn't covered in tattoos and facial piercings.
We're not suppressing it, we're just selectively avoiding using the AC accidentally in certain theaters.
Now I don't know about you, but with only a high school education and all, I know there's a fucking off and on switch on an AC, and most places don't give access to such things to anyone but a manager or better. Fuck, I worked at a grocery store for a few years and there was ONE person who had the key to be able to control things like that. In a store that had 25 workers. One key. Don't gimme that it was an oops we turned off the AC to only certain movies to make you uncomfortable the entire time.
And some even evacuated people from the theater for some reason. That's insane, especially with no reason given. Sure they refunded them (eventually, according to the online ticket purchase lady) but that doesn't mean they got to see the movie.
So if you're looking to watch a movie, make sure it's not in an AMC theater. They're just going to "oopsie woopsie we made a fucky wucky, we're as incompetent as fuck, our bad" themselves to being maliciously compliant to ruin the box office numbers as much as they can in their own special little way.
If this is what they're doing, and it seems plausible, I would suggest finding a theater that doesn't actively hate the people paying to be there.
If the theater is in a mall, it's possible that zero people have access to the AC including the managers depending on how the system is set up or how the mall decides to manage it.
I'd agree, but it's too selective to be able to shut off only certain theaters showing this movie in particular.
Then again, I have no idea how they would wire up the AC for whichever mall those theaters are in. It's likely temperature controlled locally in the theater even if it's set to ambient temperature of the mall, so there would at least be a thermostat, likely under lock and key.
It was the exact opposite when I went and saw it. The A/C was on constantly and was much louder than the dialogue of the movie. I made a point of pointing it out but that was before I was introduced to the idea that there was anything shady going on.
Still don't know what I think about the whole thing...
The closest theater to me isn't showing it at all and most theaters in my area are only doing one or two showings a day and usually an early morning showing and a very late night showing.
If this film was given a fair shot we'd be seeing actual blockbuster ticket sales on it.
Might just be NPC employees. But I doubt they'd do it if they thought the CEO wasn't going to run interference when they were called out on it.
The guy is on twatter promoting every movie under the sun. Except "Sound of Freedom". Makes me think it may be a "will no one rid me of this turbulent Priest" situation.
If it's happening, it's Hollywood execs calling down saying to suppress it or they'll inflict more damage than the lockdowns and streaming has already done.
Have an archive link for posterity and also because fuck giving Wikipedia hits.

If it was someone higher up they could just not show the movie at all. I'm guessing if this isn't just coincidence it's activist employees.

Yup, this is pretty clearly low level sabotage.

This movie has a really wide release, I'm sure the plurality of theaters are showing this movie.

Its especially funny as their defense to malice is to admit extreme incompetence. Something that should lose them customers and sales anyway.
I noticed earlier AMC was the exclusive theater for some movie about blacks and racism playing hockey. Woke theater woke rules.
They're owned by a Chinese company, so...
Correct. Chinese.

That’s what a werewolf would say!
