According to the "official" stats. A $60 product in 2017 would be $73 today. And that's being generous. So it's probably more that people have less money to spend on leisure in general.

People's pay did not get updated to match that dollar devaluation.

It did. How do you think inflation happened?

All the free money the government gave out in 2000-2022 in the form of direct payments & most importantly, unprecedented massive "unemployment" payments.

Not everyone got it, of course. That's government for you.

Inflation is a bitch, especially when most of that inflation was food prices/etc which you can't just... Not buy.

Game prices going up is fair, provided the game quality isn't shit

Yeah, according to inflation game prices should have actually risen quite a lot since the N64/PS1 era, but they didn't. It's only now that everything is going way up since the 2020 money printing extravaganza that it's becoming really relevant.

These fuckers have been trying to nickle and dime consumers for years with shitty MTX. They can shove the inflation meme up their ass.

No shit, companies already piece up the game on launch to three different price tags, no one wants to drop an extra ten dollars for a game when they are already half games to begin with.

Game publishers desperate to find any reason to hide the fact that their game(s) were poorly made and thus didn't sell well hires analyst to find an excuse.

Pc gaming is a mess. Every game in the last 12 months run like dog water and doesnt even look that much better than a game made 3 or more years ago. Plus more than half the time it suffers the same price tag of 70usd..

Even $60 is more than I'm going spend on most videogames.

I wish publishers would get the message and go back to smaller teams on lower budgets with shorter development cycles.

Maybe they should try making better exclusive games. Nintendo won't have any trouble selling $70 copies of Tears of the Kingdom.

The game industry hates your guts and wants you gaming on mobile, anyway, because it's dirt cheap to make and rakes in all the cash.

I haven't spent $60 on a game since I think Call of Duty Ghosts in 2013. Not only did that game suck, but I started to realize in many cases you could wait a month and get $20 off. Especially easy with single player games, who cares if you wait a month even if you are looking forward to it. So far I think Ghost of Tsushima is the only game I feel like I missed out on, I was waiting for $30 and since they did that director's cut BS I ended up getting rid of my PlayStation before it got cheap enough.

My thought was always if they make a game worth the price and not drop it quick or often enough, I'll pay more. So far that hasn't happened. Even Nintendo occasionally drops their prices.
