The left needs a cause.
Normies have accepted black people, Muslims, gays, transexuals lesbians, whores, strippers, etc. Whether or not accepting these things is good or bad is irrelevant, without a sacred pet to champion they have no power.
So they champion child transexualism, because that's the thing that most people oppose, but enough people support. They tried Pedophilia, but it was universally shot down. When they normalize child sex changes, they'll probably circle back to pedophilia or """climate change""" mercy killing.
The entire point of the Queer Theory movement is to attack normative behavior. It's a highly concentrated acid eating through everything. There's no stopping point, no off switch.

Extremist liberals will burn down their own house just for the mental stimulation of rebuilding it. Often practical concerns intercede - so they'll turn to burning down your house in order to rebuild it.
The problem with extremist conservatives is they'll just let everything rot. Something is broken? Well fixing it would mean "change" and they don't want any of that. Any conservative party always has the issue that it's really really bad at recruiting new worthwhile people without an external event or something forcing it to. Becomes weak over time.
Pedophilia is their true goal. Everything else is just a stepping stone.
Many amongst the LGBT movement are indeed striving for pedophilia, but the left doesn't care. If even pedophilia is normalized, they'll drop it and move on to zoophilia or whatever. They must always champion an unpopular cause.

My theory on that is it was one of the best forms of blackmail, though the child rapists should still be burned at the stake.

I don't buy the whole "the left has no ideology" argument. The BLM narrative was working well for them. The Summer of George had a huge turnout. BLM activism is less visible now because it achieved a lot of its goals. Chauvin is in prison. Law enforcement and criminal justice has gone extremely hands off in progressive cities. Blacks are crammed into everything in the pop culture, beyond the point of absurdity. They have even got Republicans to implement some of their policy goals (see First Step Act).
On the trans issue, it's a rather dubious means of seeking power. It's turning people against them and radicalizing the right. You also have wealthy troons like "Jennifer" Pritzker and "Martine" Rothblatt pushing it. If that's all for show, trooning out themselves is a pretty big commitment to the bit.
I think this article's explanation inverts things. It's not a tactic to gain power. It's something powerful people want, and they are using their wealth and power to push it.
It also keeps everyone focused on a lighting rod social issue rather than the abject corruption of all government institutions.
Who is gonna stop them? Not even Tennessee is actually making it illegal to trans.
Their traitor governor is too busy trying to bully the legislature into implementing his leftist policy on guns to give a shit about anything else.
I think the other reason is that the left have always gone 'all or nothing' with their policies and that usually puts them out ahead as the right has been unwilling to adopt such a stance to combat them...
..till now with trans because you've just set up the perfect 'all or nothing' enemy for the right. Thanks to the targeting of children, the insane dangerous cult and the break up of family ties, a lot on the right are going 'terms are acceptable' on destroying every privilege that enables the trans push and the most intelligent of the left (it's at least in double digits) are just realising they entered a minefield with the trans shit.
If leftists can make people believe that some 8 feet tall, bearded dude in a dress and a wig is a woman then they can make them believe in everything they want.
Basically they want people to stop trusting their eyes and accept their 'facts' as objective truth
It's a good article - tldr: the left needs a "repressed" group to champion but they've run out of groups to do it with.
Like any article it's missing a few points but, no one reads 10 page essays on every possible angle anyways.
I think this may be mainly the problem for democratic politicians. They'd prefer to pivot to some new topic but they've run out of stuff to pivot to so they just keep rehashing over and over and over again.
