I don't buy the whole "the left has no ideology" argument. The BLM narrative was working well for them. The Summer of George had a huge turnout. BLM activism is less visible now because it achieved a lot of its goals. Chauvin is in prison. Law enforcement and criminal justice has gone extremely hands off in progressive cities. Blacks are crammed into everything in the pop culture, beyond the point of absurdity. They have even got Republicans to implement some of their policy goals (see First Step Act).
On the trans issue, it's a rather dubious means of seeking power. It's turning people against them and radicalizing the right. You also have wealthy troons like "Jennifer" Pritzker and "Martine" Rothblatt pushing it. If that's all for show, trooning out themselves is a pretty big commitment to the bit.
I think this article's explanation inverts things. It's not a tactic to gain power. It's something powerful people want, and they are using their wealth and power to push it.
It also keeps everyone focused on a lighting rod social issue rather than the abject corruption of all government institutions.
