Yeah, the whole lynching narrative is stupid. Lynching wasn't implicitly racial (more whites were lynched than blacks), and a huge chunk of those were criminals. To be clear, not saying lynching was good, or that sometimes the crime wasn't simply 'he's black, get 'im!', but this idea that it was strictly or primarily a white-on-black act is totally wrong.
It was the people, for better or worse, feeling that justice wasn't being done, and taking maters into their own hands.
