As much as I'd like to invest in eggs, I'm not sure they'll survive a great fall.

You heard of that investor who lost it all after dumping his stocks on the market? It was so bad he had all the eggs in one basket that even the military got involved. I recall his name was Humpty Dumpty.

She must live in a major city because $120,000 is a lot of money where I am, and I'm not exactly in the boonies.

Unless you work in government, media or banking/finance, I have no idea why someone would live in the city in this day and age.

It's the same in Europe, chicken and eggs aren't worth it anymore as a source of protein.

Chuck roast is the same price as chicken breasts if you correct for the added water weight in the chicken and the lower quality protein and nutrient density.

Lets just say I'd rather make a nice slow cooked bolognese than eat factory farmed chicken cooked in any way.

Who eats eggs anyways? The only thing I can think of to do with them is bake. Which I mean isn't going to drive you broke at 2 eggs a cake.

That woman is doing something very dumb if she can't make it on $120k/year, but the huge jump in the price of eggs is definitely ridiculous too.

This woman has some impulse control problems.

That said, Eggs as currency sounds like an awesome apocalypse.

Maybe she should move. I have never made $120k a year in my entire career. Yet I have a 2,000 square foot house, multiple cars, decent amount of investment real estate, and generally people seem to think I'm rich for some reason. So, either she lives in a shithole city or blows her money on bullshit constantly. My vote is on both.

I would say a majority of people spend every penny they make. That's what it seems like anyways. I'm not their financial advisor. In which case at the end of the day no matter how much your income was, you are poor.

where the fuck are you living that 120k/year can't afford the hike in groceries!? Yes you're spending power is cut a bit, but this should only be a major problem for people making below 70k.

I'd bet a lot of that goes towards very expensive types of entertainment, as frequently as possible.

If you're wondering why egg prices are up, it's a combination of inflation and avian flu that's going through the American poultry sector right now. It began back in Feb of last year and after culling about 5% of the domestic chicken population, is only now being felt in price increases.

In other words, the government is destroying chicken farms for no real reason.

Or more likely for malicious reasons.

This is the case.

This weekend I will buy free-range eggs at the farmer's market. They've always been more expensive and their price hasn't inflated like factory-farmed eggs, but now I have an excuse to buy them.

Egg-laying chickens lay up to one egg per day at their peak.

I hear roosters crowing from three different directions in my quaint suburban neighborhood. Makes me wonder if I should put a few chickens in the backyard as well. I'll be rich! Rich I tell you!!

And if the price of eggs ever go back to being reasonable I can just start having roast chicken for a few months.

Meanwhile I'm over here buying the eggs that aren't factory farmed and going "Damn, they went up a whole dollar to $7 a carton".
