Sure, I don't have a huge issue with "accounts exclusively promoting" such things, but I have a big issue with the other part.
Plenty of people have had multiple links for ages, and it's not a problem. They'll link their Twitch, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and similar accounts on Twitter.
Also, people here rightfully threw a fuss when they banned BitChute and similar links.
This is nonsense, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise just because of Based Elon.
This. It's the "no links whatsoever policy" that's idiotic. Only commies who hate Elon for shutting down one of their CP exchanges would object to him nuking what are essentially spam accounts.
Having a link in the bio is not what they're talking about, even tweeting a link isn't against the rules (that's what cross posting is) spamming outside links is against the rules now. This is a big nothing.
Banning the accounts that solely exist to promote other social media sites is the equivalent of your example. Banning any links whatsoever is more like Walmart kicking someone out for even mentioning Target. The former is reasonable, the latter is retardedly over the top.
It's hard to make a comparison using the analogy at all, even, since Walmart is not intended to share information. Twitter - at least in theory - is. It's for people to promote themselves! People have always included links to where they are on other platforms.
I don't like it because, let's be honest, they're still going to allow links to places like Substack. They're trying to undercut competitors, but this could be expanded to other sites they don't like.
There is absolutely nothing Elon can do that would be more egregious than what the Roth/Gadde squad of transgender communists did to us for six years, so I'm completely fine with this.
One of the mistakes radlibs made was kicking normie conservatives off of mainstream social media, thus relegating them to alt-tech platforms where they are exposed to radicals (like me!). It looks like Twitter is trying to correct that mistake. Part of that effort is isolating it from the alt tech platforms that are still around. It can now be done under the cover of trolling the libtards by banning Mastadon.
It all fits in rather nicely with the "rock the baby back to sleep" operation that post 2016 is shaping up to be.
Graham had said he wasn't using Twitter anymore and linked to his mastadon account, thus making his twitter "solely for the purpose" of promoting other social media.
It's funny because Graham's Hacker News is maybe the most censorious forum and it's censored on his personal whims and tantrums (when he was still running it). Example, he banned an account for tactfully reminding them that Aaron Swartz had in fact committed crimes, set up a rival institution to take the heat, and put real people's jobs at risk -- a +40 upvoted deep comment. Banned because he was butt-buddies with Swartz and the truth hurt his feelings.
So no more links to FakeBook, InstaThot and the big names, and no more single-purpose accounts advertising for competing platforms.
The "no linking" policy will make Twitter annoying to work with for many. You can't re-publish long content on Twitter and can't link to your publication on FB. I don't use it but I can see the problem.
The no single-purpose promotional account is understandable.
So they'll remove accounts that just promote these social media and link to them but allow cross posting from ANY social media and allow links to none of those mentioned so you can link to YouTube or hell link to here.
Seems fair, they're a business so why allow someone to use your 'lobby' as a place to go 'our place is better, go here'. They also targeted only social media that is effectively the same as them as YouTube, Twitch, Bitchute aren't mentioned so content creators are fine. This mainly targets those that are going 'I'm leaving Twitter, follow me on my new account'.
Elon buying twitter and using it the way he wants has been long schadenfreude for me. Left wing fucksticks shrieking at the fact that they are getting the taste of banning and suspension is one huge dopamine.
What the fuck is GlobalFilter? It got three of my recent comments too...with no notification, and the posts still look active...the only reason I noticed is because I happened to check when I wasn't signed in.
Eh, they're a business. I'm pretty sure Walmart would kick out somebody standing in their doorway with a sign that said "Shop at Target" too.
Sure, I don't have a huge issue with "accounts exclusively promoting" such things, but I have a big issue with the other part.

That's weird, because they clearly state they're not doing that.
They're saying that accounts that only post links to other social media and nothing else are going to be banned.
Read the third tweet.
You know that cross posting is what most people do, right?
Having a link in the bio is not what they're talking about, even tweeting a link isn't against the rules (that's what cross posting is) spamming outside links is against the rules now. This is a big nothing.

Ha ha Elon suspended Paul Graham's account.
Good riddance.
edit: he got his account back. Sad!
It’s quite obviously a rule violation, but there are severe mental gymnastics in the hacker news thread that feel like gaslighting.
“How can you say he linked to his mastodon?!?!”
So no more links to FakeBook, InstaThot and the big names, and no more single-purpose accounts advertising for competing platforms.

If this works out in the logical sense, which just bans bots and whiners posting about following them elsewhere because meanie Elon, that's great.
But if it doesn't, fuck Twitter. Its destruction only benefits the entirety of society, so doing something idiotic is still great.
Twitter is a private company.
They can do what they want.
THoTs on lifesupport.
Still allowing only fans though
Elon buying twitter and using it the way he wants has been long schadenfreude for me. Left wing fucksticks shrieking at the fact that they are getting the taste of banning and suspension is one huge dopamine.
I hope this is just temporary until Twitter becomes profitable.
How ironic.
It was a GlobalFilter removal as well.

I guess it's a bot that auto-removes things that violate site-wide rules. I had it remove one of my comments as well, and I don't know why.
