You know this type of bill will have all kinds of strings attached to be able to just shut down any website """"""""connected"""""""" with """"""""enemies"""""""" of the state.
They already have mechanisms to do that, and if they didn't but wanted to, they'd find a way to do it anyway and then be unaccountable if it was later found to be illegal.
At least ban it from being used by minors or to target minors. Sure they can lie to get an account but they wouldn't be able to upload videos of themselves for points.
I don't like the "foreign adversaries" designation. Either you're at war or not. NK is the only one of those we are still at war with.
This'll be another nothing burger because Biden's too weak to move against a WEAKENED China and turtle's got too much love for Asian happy ending to move his slow ass either.
On the one hand I like the idea of Tiktok being banished from the country. On the other, I dislike the idea of the government being able to ban a means of online communication because it flies in the face of the principles enshrined in the First Amendment.
This is where I'm at; obviously they will target places like this for "spreading rUsSiAn PrOpAgAnDA," on the other hand the 1a only works if the population is morally straight and not completely retarded. The nature of tictok alone is obviously incredibly subversive, and that's not even getting into the tech of it; still though, the US government is beyond compromised, and cannot be trusted.
It's a genuine dilemma. Tiktok is pysoping the population to death and needs to be forcibly removed from the country. However, giving the government that kind of power just means further abuse from an illegitimate government that will eventually need to be deposed. Neither of these are good options.
The best workaround I can think of is some sort of grassroots movement to meme Tiktok into irrelevance. Could the population be convinced that Tiktok is cringe and gay by some sort of meme campaign?
People are fickle in their tastes of internet platforms. Does anyone here still use Digg or MySpace? So yes, I think that TikTok could be killed through social pressure.
I’ll also add that TikTok is a spyware tool for the CCP. The app siphons data that it has no business collecting, like what devices you have on your LAN for example. So it should be banned on those grounds the same way that Huawei telecom equipment has been banned. The fact that it is also obviously a psyop designed to promote degeneracy is also impetus to ban it.
Maybe the US could draw a line and just ban all Chinese tech companies. I don’t like it since it’ll fracture the internet further but at least it’d be some sort of objective principle to point to. I really don’t like subjectively banning TikTok (even if I dislike the platform) because it’ll set a very dangerous precedent that I’m sure that the government will abuse in the future.
So While we are at it - ban Reddit as it is run by foreign entities that wish to destroy our immigration system for their own personal benefits (most employees and users are H1B visa users who want to stay longer)
good
bad
The great hamburger firewall.

Always have to think of how these things can be abused, because they most definitely will be.

At least this way we get rid of TikTok.

Hunter’s laptop allegedly showed his son engaged with chinese child prostitutes.
So Joe is unlikely to make a move against China.
You'd think... but all that evidence, their leverage, was already dumped online and the media ignored it.
Unless China has some way to amplify the message I'm not sure that will work.
They have it 1080p HD quality
Yeah I thought it was common knowledge that Biden is on the take from China. Russia and Ukraine too
ban the chinese from doing any business in this country. i can't go over there and start a business, so why can they do it here?
Ah the digital iron curtain
Welcome back to the cold War commander bond
I'm cool with that since the other side of that digital iron curtain is full of Winnie the Pooh's spyware.
I'm well aware. That doesn't mean that keeping Chinese herpes out of our tech ecosystem is a bad idea.
I'm conflicted about this.

I agree with both of your points. I’ll also add that there’s a 99% chance that this will be abused in ways that we won’t like down the road.

Good. We can do without a platform that consists solely of woke retards being signal boosted by Winnie the Pooh while he steals everyone's data.
Sure they will my friend.
This is to make way for Twitter transactions. Elon wants to be your banker. Cha-Ching!
