It's funny when I think about it. In ancient (in terms of internet) times WoW private servers were considered a joke, then a free demo, then an repository of older expansions, then a decent alternative and now a superior product.
It has reached a point where buying a mobile AH item on turtle wow doesn't feel wrong because the original WoW crew has moved on and you're not hurting them anymore.
And no, Silicon and Synapse boys didn't chose this, their successors did.

The private server scene seems to be bustling again but I am onto my own creative endeavors. I might try turtle-WoW to feel like the WoW boomer I always envisioned.

I really wanted to play D4 (no, not that one) but that's never happening now. Not without a scorched earth firing policy and a public apology to the white gamers they antagonized for Twitter likes.
Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, and Last Epoch are all better Diablo games than anything Blizzard ever made. And FF14 and Guild Wars 2 are better MMOs. WoW's most successful move in the last ten years has been releasing classic servers that rolled back the clock on ten years of mistakes.
Can you even play Destiny anymore? Last time I played Destiny 2, they gutted half the content. They also had the audacity to push subversive propaganda in their splash screens during the riots back in 2019. I can't imagine they have much in the way of new, interesting, or even functional content given how many of their competent staff have departed.
Edit: I do like FFXIV. I just hate how infested with mutants the playerbase is, and that I'm essentially locked out of joining any Free Company worth a damn because I refuse to use Discord.
