The chief officer of Morbi municipality said a local electrical appliances maker, Oreva group, had been tasked with the bridge’s maintenance. “They did not give us any information that they were reopening the bridge,” Sandeepsinh Zala said. “We have not issued any fitness certificate to them.”
That's right, they had the local alarm clock maker fix the massive suspension bridge.
They didn't collapse the bridge. A pedestrian bridge rated for 125 people must be able to dampen the dynamic forces of 125 people whose movements will tend to synchronise even without consciously trying to, just because they're all reacting the same way to the movement of the bridge. The more probable cause of the collapse is that there were literally four times as many people on the bridge as there were supposed to.
He posts weird, irrational shit all the time. Generally it’s highly upvoted, but, much like Imp, I’m not quite sure he understands logic, or gives a shit…
Blaming a bunch of, in essence, peasants, for a gigantic municipal and engineering fuck up, kind of fits with that pattern…
If this happened in fucking Africa, I imagine he, and others here, would be even more glib.
It might not even be an engineering fuck-up. Like I said, the bridge was only rated for 125 people, but there were at least 500 people on the bridge when it collapsed. It is a municipal fuck-up, though:
Some 400 people had bought tickets to get onto the bridge to celebrate the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals
Selling 400 tickets to enter a "venue" that can only safely hold 125 is obviously criminally negligent.
Idiots cause the deaths of innocents because they thought it would be funny, and in other news water is wet.
I can't tell if because of social media there's more of these idiots around or there's not any big conflicts for them to be cannon fodder like the old days.
Bit of both, but also more idiots filming the other idiots playing on a structure built and maintained by idiots. Not only are more things being filmed- increasing the chance of something interesting getting recorded, but there's obviously going to be a selection bias since people only upload or share the interesting bits and not the days or weeks of nothing.
Everything I see about it, dumb ape might apply to the majority of the hundreds of people who thought it was a good idea to walk out on that bridge while it's crowded with people. It looks pretty flimsy to me.
Watching herd mentality manifest physically like this and in the South Korea Great Crush is just so disturbing to me.
I'll bet you could ask any of the survivors what they were thinking when they decided to go into an already overcrowded space, and they'd probably only be able to articulate "everybody else was doing it" because they were actually motivated by some primal urge that bypassed any rational thought.
Come on, there’s no way that is fair attribution of blame…
The fucking bridge was over 130 years old. It clearly had not been repaired properly, and that is where the blame lies, not with the people on it at the time…
Suspension bridges of that size do not just fall from this sort of action, mate. This should not happen.
Its probably not as bad as that african foot bridge that collapse during the ribbon cutting ceremony lol. Where it looked like the ribbon was load bearing.
You don't blame a bear for stepping on a bear trap, you blame the trapper. That bridge was rigged to fall, possibly accidentally, but either hostile maintenance or non-existent maintenance is the primary contributing factor.
If one dude doing that is the cause... that bridge was never safe to begin with. They're just looking for scapegoat for their shitty engineering.
That's right, they had the local alarm clock maker fix the massive suspension bridge.
Superpower by 2024, obviously.

They shook it and it collapsed. Looks pretty fucking cut and dry to me.
Doesn't look cut and dry to me. They attempted to induce harmonic oscillation, yes. They barely even got started getting the bridge to oscillate.
That's like trying to carve your initials into a bridge by scratching the paint and finding out it's rusted through and it disintegrates.

Exactly. Saying something looks "cut and dry" makes zero sense.
Cut and dried is the correct version.

stop defending street shitters
kek
There was no harmonic nothing. You shake something that's not put together to withstand the shaking, it falls apart.

'How many idiots are there?'
"YO"
'I knew it, I'm surrounded by idiots'

We really are dumb apes.
Calling Indians “apes” is fun. /s

You ever wonder if some people just don't deserve infrastructure?
Its probably not as bad as that african foot bridge that collapse during the ribbon cutting ceremony lol. Where it looked like the ribbon was load bearing.
They did not cause that collapse.

So if you're male and under 65, your life doesn't count. This line is so unnecessary, it just creates a weird valuation of lives.
It does give a kind of indication of how the accident caused the majority of the fatalities.
If it were from tons of falling debris hitting people, the fatalities would be distributed more randomly as dumb luck determines whether your survive.
If it's drowning from falling in a river. The frail and incapable would make up the majority.
"987,550 people died in the bombing, including one woman and 4 babies." is how they always frame these things. Young men never matter to them.
The stereotype of young men is "fit and competent". That probably needs to change now.
"987,550 people died in the bombing, including one woman, 4 babies, and 162,349 soygoys."
Why would they bother to count what they don't care about?
