Anyone ever play dynasty warriors?
posted 3 years ago by Smith1980 3 years ago by Smith1980 +22 / -0

If so can you recommend any other games with that kind of battle/fighting style?

This is called a musou game.
Other ones I can think of, Drakenguard, Hyrule Warriors, Dragon Quest Heroes, some of the senran kaguras but Dynasty Warriors still the og

My first recommendation is Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate.

It has the same gameplay of Dynasty warriors.

The game roster is comprised of Dynasty Warriors characters, Samurai Warriors characters and guest characters like Ryu Hayabusa, Kasumi and Ayane from Dead or Alive.

Another good game is Persona 5 Strikers. It has a decent story that takes place after Persona 5 and it has similar hack and slash gameplay to Dynasty Warriors. You can play as all the phantom thieves.

Loved them. When I got the one for the PS2 being the nerd I am I actually spent time reading the encyclopedia included in the game about the actual history of those ancient empires. Honestly that would make a great mini series

I agree that the romance of the 3 Kingdoms is a very interesting history period to learn about.

The Sengoku Jidai era in Japan is also very interesting.

I’ll have to check that out. Any key books or shows on that era?

Sengoku Jidai. Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu: Three Unifiers of Japan by Danny Chaplin is probably the best starter book on the era.

I don't know of a historically accurate good show featuring the era but if you want an over the top anime featuring key figures from the Sengoku Jidai period, check out the Sengoku Basara anime. Of course the anime is not going to be very realistic or perfectly historically accurate.

Total War Shogun 2 is a good RTS game that focuses on the Sengoku Jidai era.

Persona 5 Strikers

Unlike all the other Musou-style games, it must be mentioned, P5S has by far been the most different. If anything, it plays more like P5 itself until you start a battle. No bases to capture, but a dungeon crawl, and the "masses of enemy grunts" don't actually appear until you start battle the same way you would in P5. It's like an endless cycle of very small scale battles that you play as an action beatemup instead of a turn-based rpg.

if you are not hitting at least 100 enemies each punch is not a musou game.

if you hit more is armageddon.

I played Hyrule warriors thinking it would be a neat Zelda spinoff.

It's just Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda skin.

The One Piece: Pirate Warriors games are fun.

Hyrule Warriors Definitive is the best musou game.

Hyrule warriors is legitimately awesome. Controls great, good variety of characters and weapons, and let's not forget the fact that the primary antagonist is weirdly booba-focused for a Zelda game.

It's my favorite in the genre, definitely.

Cia is legit one of my favorite characters, period. Appearance, motivations (I have a thing for corruption scenarios), connections with the OC heroine, and THAT FUCKING THEME (Eclipse of the Moon). It's just a shame the story as a whole was totally barebones.

just the gundam version of it.

Dynasty Warriors and its spinoffs are just that one scene from Hero where Snow and Broken Sword attack the imperial palace stretched out into an entire franchise.

If you're legit interested in that, play Samurai Warriors, it's literally the same thing as Dynasty Warriors except Sengoku Jidai Japan - it also had some interesting RTS like spin offs on PS2 called Kessen (there's 3, the 2nd is China Three Kingdoms) if you're interested in emulating them.

I recently played the Fire Emblem Warriors game that came out on Switch and generally enjoyed it, but I think that's only because I was already invested in the characters from playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The gameplay itself does get a little repetitive, but I think it's suitable for a spinoff game.
