It makes no geopolitical sense for Ukraine or the west to push for anything other than the total defeat of Russia's invasion, and it makes no geopolitical sense for Russia not to invade and establish a foothold in the region while they still can.
The war will go on, because it remains sufficiently important for it to do so.
There will be no change in that assessment unless western Europe is unable to deal with its energy crisis in winter.
