I haven't a clue what the book is about, but the 1-star rant/reviews on GoodReads makes me want to find out.

the author Larry Coreia is everything you want in a sci-fi/fiction author. he cares about the content he puts out to make it somewhat plausable due to his familiarity with firearms and he loathes political preaching in his book unless the plot calls for it. He absolutely shits on wokescoldnonse and is regularly banned on facebook for calling out leftist bullshit.

He signs books in person whenever and wherever he can, flies all over the states, and did fundraising for Uncle Hugo's bookstore in MN (which burnt down due to BLM/Antifa).

You'll read his books and enjoy them heavily as they are a breath of fresh air from the shit that is being pushed out there currently.

It's been a while since i read it but brief overview IIRC: MC survives an attack by supernatural beings, gets recruited into organization that hunts supernatural beings the American way, with a plethora of guns

hunts supernatural beings the American way, with a plethora of guns

And as a private company. Although they take money from the government, which would normally lose you some points, but considering no one even knows about the supernatural, there's no one else to really pay, so they get a pass. Plus, if you have to deal with the government and their regulations, you should be paid.

And they are not happy about that part. Like they talk about how it's a bit of a necessary evil. Later books also have the specific conflict between people who just hunt monsters vs the people who do it for the government.

Yup, I wasn't gonna get too into it, but the government is - in my opinion realistically - portrayed as both incompetent and vindictive/meddlesome. The government is just continually trying to fuck them over.

Interesting.... A buddy of mine keeps pushing me to run a Feng Shui 2 campaign. I might be able to get some ideas off this.

Imagine a world where every mythological creature is real. And Teddy Roosevelt set up a bounty system to control their numbers. And the preeminent Hunter company in the US is based in a fictional town in Southern Alabama.

They're coming out with a D&D style boardgame soon.

I came here to say this. I was just thinking of relistening to it, too.

"The King in Yellow" by Robert W. Chambers

I feel like we need to have a break from sci-fi.

I really think everyone should read Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect, available for free at the link.

It's more of a novella/short story, but you won't regret it. Doesn't take very long to read. Truly a hidden gem that's just a click away.

Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep.
Made into the movie Bladerunner.

  • it's short!
  • it's packed full of... stuff!
  • the movie has about 1/3 of the short novels content, both are amazing!

PK Dick is a giant in American sci-fi writing. This is one of his seminal works: he has many more, but DADOES is one of the most accessible.
Lots of places to read it online for free too!
Here for example!

I just read a bit: it's set in January 2021... similar to Mad Max...
