Maybe they think it "humanized" him.
He didn't fall off a bike. He forgot how to stand. Bike is completely stopped, maybe his right foot gets a little tangled with the pedal and then he falls over.
It didn't get tangled. He didn't lift his foot up enough off the pedal to set it on the ground, and he didn't notice.
I'm not surprised by this with people who are very advanced in age. Even gross motor skills start to take a hit.
Frankly, falling over on a bike is pretty unpleasant for normal people. For someone his age, it's fucking dangerous, especially onto the fucking road. Old people fucking die from falls like this.

That's not the only problem here. Watch this video here that shows him standing back up. First thing he does upon getting to his feet is beeline straight to a little girl to sniff her hair. Every. Fucking. Time.

Does anyone use toe clips any more? The only people that do are those that don't know any better or people who haven't biked since the 1970s. Even still why bother with them when you're pushing 80 as it is unless already an avid rider? If I were on his staff I would have taken those stupid things off and had flat pedals the second I saw it.
I'm sure ol' Joe will use this experience to lecture us all about how we need to be cycling everywhere instead of driving though. He's a man of the people!

Yeah, this wasn't as bad as I figured it would be when I heard it described. It was still very avoidable, and he's still demented and senile, but this was a pretty simple accident. Also, for once the excuse was the actual truth; he got his foot stuck in the strap. If anything, this was the most honest the Whitehouse has been in ages.
