Who the fuck is clamoring for a Laura Dern comeback?

Only in Clown World is the reply to...

Laura Dern Reveals Her Requirements

"OMG SO STUNNING AND BRAVE!!"

Back in reality a movie producer replies, "Understood. We'll recast the role." and then the whole room of execs laugh as they hang up the phone.

Does anyone remember how in Back to The Future they fired the actor who played the dad? Just because he had disagreements with the director's vision and wanted a little more money? I do think Zemeckis was being an asshole but he had to draw a line in the sand. The precedent was established back in Hitchcock's era. Actors don't make movies. They look pretty and do what they're told.

But didn't you just love her in The Last Jedi? I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to see more of her in cinema.

But seriously though, she was perfectly adequate in the first Jurassic Park. I can't say that I've seen her in enough other films to judge her as an actress, but she hasn't exactly blown me away. She's there for memberries and nothing else.

TLJ and her character therein were abominations. Laura herself, though, is a very capable actress when she has a director who's not a complete tool like Rian Johnson is.

Look at some of her work with David Lynch - she turns in great performances.

Poor Michael is rolling in his grave.

The dude wrote State of Fear, and these assholes are pretending turning one of his characters into a fanatical climate change activist is in keeping with his vision.

"Luckily, they were very open to those and in agreement, and it was very important to Colin, who cares deeply about the environment, and I think feels proud and grateful that we have a seamless opportunity in this franchise to talk about what's most important right now, in terms of protecting our home, Earth," Dern said. "It's embedded in this franchise. It's in the original book. So, it was a seamless conversation. But to me, how she'd evolved in her area of science that she had studied as a paleontologist, our former extinction, and would have evolved as a soil scientist whose focus would be climate change to avoid another extinction. Made perfect sense and he agreed completely. And she wouldn't not be an activist. It's Dr. Ellie Sattler, come on. And if boys want to join her and use their voice, they might have an amazing experience. But they better abandon dig sites and get with the program and start saving the world."

Also from the wiki page:

In Appendix I, Crichton warns "both sides" of the global warming debate against the politicization of science. Here he provides two examples of the disastrous combination of pseudoscience and politics: the early 20th-century ideas of eugenics (which he directly cites as one of the theories that allowed for the Holocaust) and Lysenkoism.

Meanwhile, these people "I hecking love Science™! This is totally in keeping with the original work!"

She complained about their age difference? She looks fucking terrible for 55. Neil looks amazing at 74.

Of course it's going to be terrible. The first Jurassic World was stupid, the second Jurassic World was stupid, this one will also be stupid.

The Jurassic series is one of those series that is so unremarkable that all the movies blend into one huge dino turd.

The first Jurassic Park movie was great. After that it was just an uninspired samey mess. I've watched a few of the ones that came after that but they were so bad I cannot even remember how many or which ones I've watched.

You had me seething for a moment until I realised you said World, which means you were referring to one movie I fucking hated and another which I didn't even know existed. Ignorance is bliss, I wish I'd been even more ignorant and not seen JW1.

Rest assured, I think the first Jurassic Park movie is great.

She wants to play a climate change scientist because she is a dumb activist but thinks is ridiculous that the character would be an activist.

As if the fossil record wasn't one of the ways scientists establish what Earth's past climate was like, enabling them to model what the future climate will look like.

Jurassic World Dominion: Laura Dern Reveals Her Requirements For Playing Ellie Sattler Again

Yup, that's a big red flag.

franchise returns with the upcoming film

Also, that alone is a huge red flag.

Probably, although I'm not likely to watch it anyway. My cousin mentioned us going since he's looking forward to it and that's only way I'll see it. Won't feel like I miss out if he goes with his dad or one of his friends his age instead.

Outside of just this warning sign though, do these returning cast gimmicks really work for them, or are we just at a point of no more creative ability? You'd think I would be the target audience for some sort of nostalgia trip. I loved the original when it came out. I didn't get a ton of "expensive" stuff as a kid, yet the VHS tape of the movie was one of like 3 total I had. I had a Jurassic Park game as one of the few for my Game Gear. Hell, I had a Jurassic Park birthday party as the only birthday party I ever had as a kid. I read all the books, and part of the reason I read some of Crichton's other stuff too. All this said and seeing the cast return moved the needle on my interest totally ZERO. If anything, it might have made it worse as I'd rather just see a new story.

Oh and Ellie Sattler is about as important to the original movie as the investor dude who got eaten by the T-Rex while he was taking a shit. I know she had more of a role, but it was a pretty spare one.

I took the trailer and the totally-not-forced shot of a white girl and black guy in an enthusiastic makeout session as a warning sign about the movie.

"Come see our dinosaur movie, and don't forget to race mix!"

In the trailer it looked like Chris Pratt is splitting his role as the male lead with some lady too
